Red face attempted zander fishing with the boss

well today started pretty horrendously weather wise(double cats and dogs) and it took me over 2 hours to get up to Richards, think he was supprised when he phoned to say I was still on way up
was let into the house by Richards dad and realised I should not be wearing a Harlequins shirt in a staunch Gloucester supporters home , sorry richards dad, quick double take as richard appears with new sleek look (has to be a lady involved or hes going to take up speed skating)
but a quick turn arround and followed richards car through small back alleys to some estate somewhere in the city(glad i was following would never have found on own!!!!!!!! )

went off to chosen swim and set up

boy do we look organised, give us plenty of bank and we will use it

think Richard should be known as Fishing Korum Admin from now as obviously has shares in company now

then we banged out some tentative frozen baits(mainly roach and lamprey)

with some makkie as well and set about the task of catching lives

which proved impossible

there were a few bleeps from the rods but was really a very quiet day

I obviously did miss one take as makkie was teeth marked

and apart from intermittant early rain the day turned out ok later

we fished untill 7 then the lure of a swift pint was too much(plus lack of activity )

so a quick social pint in his local(that was painfull as took me to pub with 5 real alesbut had drive home)

now if you are ready here I snapped a quick pick of the sleek look(know Andy will have a comment here lol) please brace yourself

keep going

bit more

those of nervous disposition turn back now

really do turn back

ok here goes

sorry boss
really was great to meet again, next time we will get fish(know you are going to say my fault as well )

dave

Monks Marina at sharpness

Well the day for a zander hunt had come and after dave had almost given my dad a heart attack by were a Harlequins shirt in the house we had a quick chat and decide to give the Monks Marina at sharpness a go for some zander.) the vicar came round afterwards on cleansed the house).

The day was a wet one but luckly mild but with it being so wet was unable do any videoing which was a shame as it would have been nice to do some rigs ect but hay next time.

We choose the corner on the monks marina as this gave a 70yrds of bank plus a massive amount of water to work as one thing I have been tought is never leave your bait long when zandering but to give it say 15 - 20 mins and then move it , ever by recasting or by reeling it in 30 foot.

So we needed bait fish as the saying goes "if its fresh its best" so out went the pole to bag up on some lovely 3 to 4 inch roach or bream.

Well I have never had any problems getting any bait but today was totally useless no matter what we tried. Now I started to worry as if theres you cannot catch bait then never can zander !!! But we were settled so decided to grin and bare it and hope for a stray fish.

We continually moved our baits and covering all of the bay but we were not getting any bleeps on the bight indicators.

The bait that did produce a few bleeps was lamprey that dave had on a three foot pop up rig but did not develop into a run.

Dave did have a bit more interest on mackeral but still very shy bite but once the mackeral had been retreaved there were the " tail tail "puntcher marks on the fish .

As the dusk started to set in our hopes rose as we all know that this is zander time but nothing - not a sniff

So with a quick mention of a beer dave was packed up in a mill second and we had a pint in our hands -- job done

I was amazed that we did not get any zander or pike but as mentioned above we could not catch any bait fish so preditors will not hold up in a desert of fish.

Will give this place ago again as its just got to hold zander but maybe wait a week or two and see if the shoals move back in

OK cannot hold back the reason we blanked was because forgot to bring his world famous " Ping Pies "

Wonderful to see dave again althoungh hes on the naught step because of taking the photo - LMAO

Re: attempted zander fishing with the boss

great report guys and pics shame you did not catch but you enjoyed a good day no doubt .

and yes ian lamprey is a very good zander bait and although salt water baits are not the best for zeds from timne to time zander do get caught on them although i personally have only caught them on lamprey but a couple of mates have caught on smelt and are confident in using them for zeds .
but i,ve alway said to stick with coarse baits but there are a few waters where sea baits work very well indeed for zeds
