Canal Zander Fishing

Well hoping to get out later in the week for some zanders and with the rivers in flood and the colour of mud it looks like the sharpness canal.

Although this is very coloured it will be the easier to fish so popped out to have a look at some spots and found this place which is deeper as it used to be an active part of the canal.

Plus a few matches are held regularly so there must be a head of silver fish

THe bay at the end of the video looks interesting just need to work out how to get to it with out anyone kicking me off

>> Map

Any ideas on how to hit this water as the colour is very muddy for the canal

Maybe lampery ??

.....Is this time for me to pay you back for your past advice ? I think it might be.

The video is shot from the bank by the UJC cinema on the Bristol Road, this much you probably know. There is also a very convenient bench just there.

The bay is, as far as I remember, called Monk Meadow. The fishing used to be let out to some organisation like MEB.

This part used to be accessible from the back roads near Hobbs Brothers Fuel Depot.

There is (was) also a more open stretch of the canal just up from Monk Meadow, the name of which escapes me.

There used to be a disabled guy in a wheelchair on the canal side he used to catch Zander by the score.

Timms yard is also just there and he always had an eye for a quick quid and in the past has allowed "decent" people to moor narrowboats against his wall.
There would be parking too. He might be worth a chat.

Kevin Forte (01452 424656) the Bailiff type bloke sells fishing tickets on the canal. You must know him too.

This area is notorious for young "people" up to no good.

Hope this helps.

Best regards

Malcg

PS If you're going again give me a bell.

Re: Canal Zander Fishing

Hi mate

Yes you are right on the locations as this is were I did my pants videoing

Did ask around the yard to see if there was anyone who had the rights to fish there but nobody had an idea and it looks like nobody has been there for sometime fishing.

THey are doing alot of bank work ( see last bit of second video ) clearing all the bushes. No dought this is for the boats and not for us anglers

Will fire a pm to you as might well be going on friday , fishing into the evening in the monk meadow side as the cinema side would be to much hassel ( kids ect )

Fingers crossed on the weather

Re: Canal Zander Fishing

Good luck Richard

Im keen to hear how you get on i like the looks of the sharpness/gloucester canal, its a venue i may well try in the future for the Zeds. But i prefer the looks of the rural settings of the photos on your web site than the areas of the vids that you have posted. But very interesting to see the areas on your vids i must say.

Re: Canal Zander Fishing

I know there a good Pike there as my mate fishes the other side and they can go into the 20lb+ . It just depends on the weather me thinks, but could be fun -- well cold windy and wet at least

Sorry Rich,

It's my birthday on Saturday (51! How did that happen?) and Madam is taking me out for a posh lunch on Friday, so it's a non starter.

Next time though........

Best of luck.
