battling the fog

hello guys well me and my mate decide to go to the cutt off channel to day for a bash at zander as it was nice and sunny. i thought i can get some live roach to day for the zeds. well as it was getting dark the fog came down realy bad as i could not even see my rods in front off me nor my mate lol. it was time to get the rods out all out on live cast to where i might get a zed or 2. half hour into dark my left rod start to beep swinger up then down and so on. then it stop i thought dam i have missed it. but then it went again then i hit it and it was on. then i thought its something small it came in like a bream. then it come up the surface it was a pike 1lb 2oz i had to weigh it lol to see where the scales went. but did not take photo it was to small lol. so then got fresh bait on. out it went again then about 1 hour later my middle rod bleep like mad swinger going crazy so i hit it. but nothing there i was gutted could off been a zed so i reel it in and had a look at bait it was mash to bits. so then put fresh live on then out that went then sat back down it was all calm for a while. fog was getting thicker bye the minute. then my mate shouted pack up i was like no no no then ok so then reel the rods in. and then had forgot about the lure rod. so i said to my mate im gonna have a cast in the dark on my lure he said you wont get nothing nuggert i said watch me then. so i had a couple off casts bounce across the bottom nothing. he said see told you so i said last cast then we get going. then i got the lure about half way in across the bottom then i felt a hit so i strike then some it was on felt big. it was thrashing my rod about like mad i said to my mate im on it feel big it was running up the river pulling like mad. and as if it was shaking it self then my mate say i got to set my net up he then ran back to set the net up. and then came back to me with the net but then the rod went loose i said no i want that fish i was gutted so i looked at the lure few bite marks on it and bit shreaded. i said to my mate what the hell was that fish. i did not even got to see what it was im choked im still wondering what it could off been so i said r well never it was never ment to be so then i packed the lure rod up. and up and off we went home and my mate nearly crashed in the railings on the bridge. could not see a thing in sight but made safe journey home till then ill be back
