what a crueller

well managed another trip after my favourite species ZANDER i had arranged to meet up with Gary AKA THE LURE MEISTER in pursuit of the rainbows end .
i was feeling quite confident for the session with the barometer slowly rising and with a wind finally dropping to a more acceptable speed and knowing we are now going to get a cold spell i would hope this would trigger the fish to have a good munch .
i was soon at are meeting spot and keen as ever Gary he was all ready waiting there we walk on to the bridge and both steered down the drain exchanging our thoughts on where we thought would give us a good chance of a good zander or too .
now knowing that the middle level is commonly run from around midday till 3pm to 4 pm we thought by the time we had got to are location and set up that the drain would have stopped running which would have enable us to fish baits to the far bank .
but for some reason it was run off longer than normal now in some swim i,m not normally bothered but here it knocked my confidence abit as i like to fish this swim over to the far bank and the flow was stopping me to be able to do this and i never like to just drop all my baits close in on my side of the drain .
but thinking it would probably be stopped a bit later than normal i did not really mind to much now tactically i edge my bets on fresh deads this evening as with it flowing this would allow once they were punctured the oils and juices to lay a scent trail in the flow .
an hour had gone by and i was now wondering when they would stop the drain as there was a bit of weed floating down causing problems and moving baits out of position which inturn meant recasting constantly which can be very exhausting up and down these steep banks
infact it was at about 8.30pm when they finally stopped running the drain and by then i felt the best time had been and gone but i now actually felt confident despite this thought as i could now spread my bait further across to the reeds on the far side where i hoped the fish i was looking for might be hiding but this also proved fruitless after another hours fishing so at 9.30 we called it a night .
now it easy to say that if we knew it was going to run like it did tonight that we would have gone to another venue that would have given us better chances with near bank spots i actually believe it would not have mattered where we had gone tonight it would still have been a real crueller
but no doubt i,ll carry on chasing the rainbow and just hope the next run brings me to the pot of gold

tightlines
kevin

Unlucky on the blank Kev, but as long as you learnt something it wasn't a wasted session.

Next time mate, next time.
