| sometimes you have to grind out results well i,m now recovered from a cruller two day zander session which i normally do over the new years eve and jan 1 but it had to be delayed . any way i,m not going to bore you with all the hour by hour blows of the session but to say my first day was as exciting as watching paint dry and a bad venue decision was made by me although i did at first think it was very fishable but soon deteriated and i tried to be a hero and fish in conditions on the relief channel that at best were very difficult due to the strong flows and constant weed dislodging leads and baits out of position and constant recasting and cleaning off the weed does eventually take its toll but how much things can change in 48 hours as i was happily confident fishing the same venue and was rewarded with a nice fat 9lb channel zander . so on day two a decision was made to move to another venue as fishing should be enjoyable not an endurance so a quick call to barrie c who was meeting up to fish friday night on the channel was soon changed to another drain and after a hard day one i wanted to just catch some zeds and i knew just where we could try and with the wind getting up to a good stiff breeze this would give good movement on the water which in my opinion will make the fishing better soon we had set up and barrie left to go to work and i went about catching some baits for later which was proving a difficult task due the the commission running the drain but i carried on and managed to catch enough. at around 4 pm gary (the lure meister ) joined me and after a chat where i informed him i,de had a small pike of about 6lb he had a quick coffee then picked out his swim just up from my location . barrie arrived and quickly set his rod up before it got dark and the zander went on the feed but at this point i got a good run and was soon into the first zed of the session and this gave every one the confidence that the zeds were having it . ![]() this went 7lb 2oz and was soon released the next hour saw us all working our baits hard and the expectation of further zeds started to subside when the rain started to fall very heavy indeed we sheltered in the bivvy but the zeds decided i was to dry so one picked up one of my baits and i was given another good take and this time a zed of just under 6lb was quickly landed and i was now wet through and yup you guest it it then stopped raining typical ![]() we carried on fishing with more confidence soon gary was into a fish and he opened his account with a nice zed of just over 7lb 10oz he was well happy as he was on a run of blanks so this was very welcomed indeed we fished on but no further action came to myself or barrie but gary was showing us the way when he an hour later had another cracking zed and it went 10lb 4oz we congratulated gary . (*well done gary *) we carried on fishing but the optimum feeding time had past but not for gary swim as he managed yet another zed this time estimated around the 5lb mark and was released it was certainly was gary session . time was soon slipping away and the final casts of the night were put out and we retired for the night and gary went home very happy indeed . no further runs came during the night for me or barrie and i was awoken early and not feeling to well i packed up early. i felt i had worked very hard but i did manage a result sadly barie also worked hard but we could find any reason for why he had no action but sometime fishing is just like that. we have spoken about this session later today and after our conversation we feel certain changes are in order and we will see next time we get out if the changes help . oh and barrie the cheese and bacon rolls were spot on cheers mate tightlines kevin ![]() Last edited by baitmaster; 01-07-2007 at 08:42 PM. |
