classic dusk feeding session

well with a forum meet going on at the sharpness canal tomorrow i had decided to go but this morning something was telling me to not go and get on my local drain for a session so i made the decision not to go and sent of my emails just to informed them i had decided not to go (sorry guys but good luck hope you all have a good session ) .
so after mending my fence that was blown down in the wind we had recently, it was time to get me gear and go after that special fish as i felt good about tonight cause my next zed would be my 50th of the season and i was hoping it would be a monster .
so i checked the weather before i went and it was going to be light south westeries the temperature was going to be 2c and the barometer was 991mb so things were looking very good indeed.
i received a text while on my way down from Gary the lure meister was i going to be on the drains if so he would meet up for a sesh .
soon i was at my given spot and the rods were soon all set up waiting to be baited it was not long before they were out with two being fished over to the far side and the third cast down along the inside to my left .
now i could not have been out very long at all before the first rod blurted into life and had me scrambling down to the rod and striking in was great to see the rod arc over in the daylight and feel the zed thumping away trying to make his escape but i was not going to let that happen it stayed deep and put up a really good account for itself and on surfacing it was not a half bad zed at all ,
i unhooked it by the waters edge as it was a lot easier and as i came up to the top of the bank carrying my net with the zed in it Gary had just turn up and was on hand to take the pictures of this 9lb specimen

no sooner had i released the zed did the other far bank rod sounded an attack i was quickly on to it and a spritely pike of 6lb was soon chinned out and unhooked quickly and released . both rods were rebaited this time with fresh dead bait Gary was trying to get his gear frantically ready as he knew the fidsh were feeding and i was lending him and when again the far bank rod was snaffled by something so once again i was on it quickly and another zed could be felt shaking his head while i played it in suddenly my inside rod came to life and i had to get Gary to deal with that as i was playing this zed which was given me a bit of a runner round and it was not a big zed at all (who said zeds don,t fight ) once again it was landed and Gary had just chinned out and unhooked another small pike .
i carried yet another zed up to the unhooking mat where it was dealt with swiftly and weighed this went 7lb exactly once again Gary done the picture

this was let loose and i rebaited the hooks and cast it back down the drain and went ot help Gary continue to set his rods up before it got dark .
once again the zeds were not going to let him get set up as yet another run was happening on my far bank rods i struck and connected once again and this too was not going to give up with out a fight and it stayed a bit deeper and really made it hard for myself to land it it gave a good account by trying to stay deep but i managed to over come this and as it was floundering on the surface Gary again was there with the net and soon this too was safely netted a quick weigh told this chunky fish was 9lb 8oz

i finally got the kettle on after this and Gary had all his rods out to and we sat there drinking are coffee wondering whether it was going to continue .
it was soon evident they had stopped feeding and as darkness fell the rods went quiet to but i wads quietly confident of more action .
not for the next two hours nothing had happened then once again my inside rod blasted off and had me slipping down the bank to the rod i struck and this fish felt go and stayed deep Gary came down with the next and watch the water for the first signs of the fish to try and gauge how big it was .
Gary saw it and told me it looked a good fish and with no messing and first chance Gary had it netted it was a very good fish of 10lb 30z and i was happy with yet another double figure specimen (7) to add to my list .
now i,m a bit disappointed with the pics and after how good Gary had been with all my picture i never checked them.
two were out of focus and another two had there tail chopped off and not centred and the other two were no better so sadly the pics the double is not brilliant

but i,m still pleased with that despite the pictures being messed up (lucky it was not a huge zed )
i was concerned Gary had not had any action as he not doing nothing wrong i felt the zeds are just not coming past me to get to his rods but Gary just as happy landing and looking at zed .
it was quiet and another hour past by and still no action to Gary and then it was yet my turn again but sadly this time i bumped it off .
we fished on in the hope Gary would get a runs as this would really lift his spirits
after another half an hour i got another half hearted take and like the run before it i pulled the hooks out of its mouth . we decided at this point to call it a night and head off home .
