i got my butt back out there

well i;ve been down in the dumps for the last few days as i went bidding on Thursday evening and had 4 zeds out of 5 runs the weights of the fish landed were 6lb 12oz ,7lb 8oz ,7lb 8oz and 7lb 12oz you might say why be disappointed with them fish well it was the fifth run which i drop which got me all upset as it was a very big zed indeed .
but i,ve explained my disappointment to a few on here via pm,s and have had some great support and sum very good advice to which i acted on this evening and got off my butt and got back out in my quest for chasing the rainbow.
now i phoned Gary (the lure miester) to see if he wanted to join me and he thought i was mad with the strong wind that were blowing but i told him it would stir the zeds up into having it .
we met up at about 3.30 pm and both stood on the bridge thinking maybe it was a bit mad to be out in this but hey ho we are here now lets find a sheltered spot .
we made our decision and were soon setting up two rods were being fished on short buoyant stems over to the bottom of the far side slope and a paternoster set up was fished on the sleeper rod which was going along the near side .
i had the kettle on in no time and while i had my back to the rods my left hand rod was all ready getting action i picked the rod up and instantly struck and missed what ever had decided to attack it it was soon baited up and was sent back across to the far side .
I got back to sorting out the coffee when the same rod was again grabbed "blimey i thought " and once i went to the rod this time it was dropped .
i look up to see the lure meister in the half light carrying his landing net to his unhooking mat so i went to have a look
he soon had a nice 7lb 11oz unhooked and as i had the camera all ready set up we took some quick pics

this was soon returned and Gary went to repair his rod when my other rod stuttered into life i paused for a second and waited and as the bobbin started to rise steaderly i leaned into it and found a very feisty 5lb 8oz zed attached we soon had it photoed and weigh and then watch it swim off safely .

we both sat down i drank our coffee,s and chatted about how good the start of the session had been in fact we had had 4 runs two fish banked and wondered what else could we expect from this evening .
i worked the baits around the swim with recast around every twenty minutes
and also twitched them about .
it had gone quiet but with the just gone full moon beaming brightly down onto the water from the very clear skies i did not surprise me that the runs had quieten down .
on the next recast i moved the far rods a bit more away form the bottom of the far slope and moved them more into the deeper water as i suspected the zeds might have done the same .
i stood chatting to Gary to the left of my rods when suddenly my sleeper rod sounded out BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! i was straight onto it and as i past my other two rod the first rod also started to climb rapidly up to the rod .
i struck the rod i was nearest to and flicked the bait runner on and went over to the other rod which when i got there the bobbin started to drop back down so i left it as i thought it had dropped it and went back to the other rod i played the fish for a minute or two not really knowing if it was a big fish or not then out popped the hooks .
i checked the bait and recast it back to the quiet spot and went back to the first rod to check , the line was slack so i started to tighten it up but there was a lot of slack indeed so i picked up the rod and wound as quickly as i could and as i suspected there was a fish attached my fears was please don,t let it be deep hooked . it felt a good fish and Gary kneel beside me with the net all ready waiting in the water .
it surfaced a good way out and it was very and thrashing very hard trying to throw the hooks we were trying to see the fish through the spray to see if it was a good fish or not and yes it was and we could see it was also hooked very lightly and Gary was very quick to act and had it gathered up .
i heard Gary muttering something as he look into the net .
i ask what he said and his reply was you only done it again you lucky b*****d .
it was soon on the unhooking mat and i popped the hooks out of it and Gary done some photo,s of this cracking 11lb 2oz zed

which is my 6th double for this season and it was nice to put a double on the bank so soon after a disspointment .
this really cheered me up and Gary congratulated me and were both hoping this was the start of the evening feed but seem to go quiet again and we had another coffee and idecided to leave the rods now and see if they were actively hunting and at around 8.30 the sleeper rod shot off i i was quickly on it but as soon as the bobbin had reached the rod and felt resistance it was dropped i hoovered over the rod and waited for it to grab it again but it was not to be this was also the last activity we had this evening and carried on fishing till 9.30 when we decided to call it a night .
i was pleased i had gone and treated it as just a social tonight and not tried and hope i caught a biggun but went and enjoyed and it was great to see the lure meister pick a zed up to and me get a bonus double aswell .
it has certainly has got me fired up again to go and continuing my quest in chasing the rainbow.

tightlines
kevin
