Re: Zander fishing on the Avon

i don't think you can specifically fish for them, i think chuck out a deadbait, and hope a zander picks it up and not a pike, i think too be honest it's luck, but i maybe wrong, i've never tried..

Re: Zander fishing on the Avon

i hear the environmental agency are getting good success with electricity but unless you have a boat and a big zappy thing then i think its just like pike fishing only you get to eat what you catch at the end

Re: Zander fishing on the Avon

Well what I remember is that zander are more in to live bait and plugs

If you sit on a dead bait then you will more than likely pick up pike

But could be wrong

Re: Zander fishing on the Avon

you fished for them before then??
a selection of plugs and lures might be best then and if you dont get any zander you will get pike

you maybe right, how many rods you taking?? could fish 1 with live bait (if you can get it) 1 on deadbait, or 1 livebait or deadbait the other plugging/spinning etc..

Re: Zander fishing on the Avon

What I normal do is plug a lenght of water for an hour then when Ive had enough ( remember I getting old ) I then set up a floating sprat rig and let it drift around

Not one for ledgering dead bait as I think you are limiting your area of coverage hence floating bait - do you guys get better result on the lead than floating

After talking about this I have just ordered some storm lures the soft type and will give the local lake a go when they arrive from the states . There I will get a few jake pike to get me in the mood for hitting the avon as at the moment there is a lot of boat traffic that will not die down till mid september and then its come on zander I need a new avater for the fishing forum

Re: Zander fishing on the Avon

i find that where i fish people get more results with a deadbait hard on the bottom, the rig being a float ledger, with the float way over depth, the bait then doesn't look suspicious, as it won't be rolling around every wave ripple etc..

Re: Zander fishing on the Avon

found out that zander are unlikely to touch a saltwater fish, mackerel/herring etc. and your best bets are fishing roach etc..

or in your case you could use size 18 hook and maggot and caster
