| two heads are better than one well i was looking forward to this evenings session as i was going to be meeting up with barrie for a session and after our last trip which we blanked on the choice for tonight session was down to me so i hoped i got the right spot and hoped it was going to be as good as mondays zed fest . although i was looking forward to it i was concerned that we were going to be fishing with the barometer dropping and the skies clearing out which was not going to help matters but there was a stiff south westerly which would put a good ripple on the surface . when i got there they also had pulled the drain which had coloured the water so this lifted my spirits . as i had arrived before dark i could take a good look to see if i could see any fish movement but could not with the water being roughed up by the wind but i did watch the grebes working as this was a sign that there must be bait fish about it was not long before i had my rods ready to be baited for the session again i fished one away to my left as a sleeper rod and then a paternoster rig in front on me and another simple bouyant running ledger rig fished to the right hand side . i sat back and was going to put the kettle on when the middle rod gave me a swift run and soon i had a small pike of around 4lb which was safely handed out . once again i decorated the trebles with another bait and flicked it out to just at the bottom of the inside slope . then while i was setting the bobbin up the sleeper rod was off now and it seemed if i was going to repeat monday session . i finally got to the rod and struck i connected with the fish but it did not really fight to hard and soon i had a small zed in the net it wasquickly unhooked and was realesed once again i baited it up and cast it again down to my left and returned to my seat and waited . as it got dark barrie turned up and i gave him a hand to get his tackle set up and i suggested where he put his baits out and now with him converting over to single bank stick set ups he could now have his rods pointing directly towards his baits which would make a better run indication. soon he had his given rigs out into the drain and the bobbins were allin place i put the keetle on and we had a welcome coffee no sooner had we started to drink it my sleeper rod wasaway and i quickly struck into a very lively zed indeed and for its size ( 5lb 8oz ) gave a very respectable fight. soon barrie had it in the net and we quickly hand it unhooked and took a few pic and then quickly back in the water . ![]() thiswas a good start and gave us both alot of confidence i again flicked the sleeeper rod down the inside amrginand retired back up to my seat where me and barrie descussed certain tactics and rigs which was really good . we also shared our different zedding experiences mine from the fenland drain and his own limited drain fishing but more from when he fished wyboston . i was quietly impressed with barrie as he was prepared to change tactics with out hesitation . we worked are baits hard as with the condition as we were trying to make it happen which sometimes can be the difference between a successful session and a blank . ii was thinking why the fish were not having it, was it becuse they were not feeding or was it because the fish had not arrived or were in the given area. as the hours tick by i started to think we were not going to get any action as i wanted to see barrie catch as he had work hard moving and twitching the baits and i wasnot going to be dissapointed ashissleeper rod up to his right burst into action and barrie was on it in an instant he quick struck and his rod hooped over i got in to position to net the zed and once again it really put up a good account for its self but between me and barrie the zed was no match and i soon had it scooped up in the waiting landing net. we carried it up to the mat but we did not need to unhook it as the hooks had come out in the net . barrie zeroed the scales and a weight of 9lb 6oz was recorded we quickly took a couple of pics then released it back in to the drain to go and muller more roach and bream . ![]() well done barrie we fished on but nothing came along but niether of us were dissapointed had i was glad to see barrie have a zed and a nice on too . all in all it was a difficult session at best and with the wind channeling down the drain it to made it difficult but we manage three zeds between us so it was successful its been a good evening and and it was a pleasure to fish with barrie thanks barrie great evening good result let do it again soon.tightlines kevin ![]() Last edited by baitmaster; 11-24-2006 at 04:31 PM. |

| Re: two heads are better than one All getting out during this week with Kevin gave me a totally new perspective on my Zander fishing. On a stillwater or in the warmer months, you can set up, remain static and still catch. But winter on the drains needs a lot of experience and effort putting in to consistantly catch, (and thats why Kevin gets great results) I can put the effort in and hopefully with the help i've already had will get the experience. (i've nicked some of his idea's already!) Had a great time and really enjoyed the company - i'll contribute to the coffee making next time! Cheers Barrie |
