its going to be hard going tonight (not )

well its monday again oh i hate mondays especially the mail .anyway after
my grumpy start to the day things started to fall into place a bit and by dinner time i was feeling better and after chatting to barrie c for awhile about ther latest on the fens it got me thinking of getting out this evening for a session after my son gets home from shcool .
the weather was looking really good and it was overcast and with the barometer reading 997mb i was confident that i might catch a zed or two .
soon i was on my way and arrived at my first venue i stopped and looked around and watched small fish dimpling on the top for a while and was thinking should i fish here no was the answer so i moved on keeping an eye on the time and the sun was setting fast now so i need to make up my mind .
i look at the second drain and could see a couple of grebes working but they were not diving as much as i would have like so i wondered the other way and saw alot of fish again dimpling on the surface and this time the two grebes here were working really hard and evey time the dived bait fish shot out of the water i did not need to look any further this was where i was going to fish
i went back to the car and got my tackle and headed off to my spot for the evening .
it did not take me long to get my rod out and set up it was all most dark now but i was abit concerned as it cleared out and the sky was now clear but i could see there would be cover in about an hour .
tactics for tonight was to fish one rod over towards the far side then fish the other two rods to the insides either side of this all were baited and soon out and i sat in my chair and waited to see if i had made a good choice after around a half an hour my left hand rod bobbin went straight up to the top i soon was by the rod and pick it up and struck .
it put up a fight and was soon shaking its head on the surface trying to shake the hooks but they held fast and i netted it quickly, there was no need to unhook it as the hooks came out in the net i quickly took a pic or two of this 7lb 8lb zed

i thought not a bad start as it was only just 5.30 pm i soon had the rod back out i settle back feeling happy with myself and wonder if it was going to be a night when you think it going to fish well and that ends up your only run .
not so as not long after the right hand bobbin started to climb steaderly i moved over to it and picked my moment and struck the rod curved over i was in again and this time the zed resisted all it could i moved closer to the waters edge to get better footing and also to net the zed it stayed deep and thoughts of a good zed were in my mind the water boiled infront of me as it surfaced then dived again the clutch allowed the fish to take a bit of line before i slowly worked it in front of me i could now see a good zed in front of me and slid the net out into the water and then with one shake of its head the hooks came out i was gutted its hard to tell how big it was but it looked really good .
soon the rod was despatched back over to the far side and i sat thinking about the lost fish but i know it must put it to one side and fish on .
things went quiet after that and i thought it was going to be along wait with no more action but i was wrong asafter afurther hour and ahalf my middle rod was signalling me some action i went down to the rod and waited then picked up the rod and struck i felt the zed kick and the fight was on while this was going on my right hand rod sent out a few bleeps and i looked across and thought please NO ! but it did not matter it bleeped again and then the bobbin rose steaderly i was still playing the zed on this rod and i quickly got it in the net and scrambled with rod, net and fish over to the other rod which by now was screaming out, i put the net in the water withg the fish and picked up the rod and struck once again the rod curved over and once againti felt good i kept pressure on it and it came along the inside it was soon thrashing in front of me and i had to now trey and land this zed as well as trying to keep the other now very zed in the net ,
some how i managed to get it in now i had to scramble up the bank and sort out the fish to make it easier i unclipped the traces and left the rods down the bottom .
i got to the top and layed the net down and peered in to the landing net to see to zeds laying there in no time at all i had them both unhooked both were then weighed the first one went 8lb exacly

and the second one went 10lb 6oz my fourth double of the season i was chuffed with it

i decided to try and take a picture of both and to try and do this on your ownis near on impossible but i just managed it i hope it does not look to bad .
just goes to show it can get very hectic at times . (and fishing is meant to be relaxing )

soon these fish were swimming away i got the rods sorted out and rebaited them both and cast the first one back over the other side .and then sent the other rod down the margin i decided to recast the dead bait further over too, with this done i went back to my seat but never got to sit down as my left hand rod was away yet again i quickly was on it and struck i brief battle insued with me being the victor once again and another spritely zed was in the folds of the landing net this weighed in at 6lb 4 oz
i quickly took a picture and as the flash went off so did my dead bait i put the fish in the net and quickly went over to the rod yet again carrying the net with a fish in it.

i struck and for a brief moment the fish was on but it came off i was not to dissapointed and quickly relased the fish from the net .
i reeled in the rod and found it had pinch my bait and put another bait on and sent it out .
i settled back in my chair and got a call from barrie asking me how i was getting on i explained it was a bit hectic and while chatting to him my right hand rod started to twitch and the bobbin steaderly rose i cut barrie off ( sorry mate) and dealt with the run but again i pulled out of the fish, on bringing it in i checked the trace could not see anything wrong with it but put a new one on just in case and sent it back out .
for once i was glad it had gone a bit quiet andi fished on till 10.30with no further run so i called it a night a went home avery happy zedder indeed

tightlines
kevin

Re: its going to be hard going tonight (not )

brilliant report Kev. You had a blinding night eh?

I've always wondered what would happen if you had two hook ups at once! Don't suppose you've ever had three then? That could get tricky!
