Question Tackling This Venue ?

Ok got me some time and with out bait I decided to have a wonder in the car and went lower down the Sharpness Canal in search of more areas to find Zander.

Went down near Enpy ( I think ) and found a very nice streatch of canal which had a few anglers on it catching few fish including one small Pike

The streatch is nice and easy to fish on but will it hold a lot of zander plus how would you tackle this venue when it has no features at all ??

Myself was thinking of starting off on where the anglers mostly fish as my thinking is that this is were the bait is going in and they are catching fish there so surely the zander cannot be far behind them.

Heres the place where Im thinking there might be some good zander in it as its not targeted by preditor guys it seems ( due to bit of drive plus parking is very hard )

Any thoughts

Re: Tackling This Venue ?

ok if i was fishing that stretch and trying to get a picture and feel for a venue is difficult at best from a picture .
but this is what i would do firstly i,ve all ready made a note of the bank side bushes these might be likely holding area even if the the bushes do not go over the water the reason being is because if the canal get regulary dredge for boating traffic dredger especially if dredge from the bank has to navigate these area which means you could possibly get irregular dredging around these .another point on dredging is if power lines cross it these will be area,s of interest .
and also where fences come right down to the waters edge these should also be investigated
now also another reason why i would be interested is on sunnier day these area again will provide shade at some point during the day .
now another observation would be to take a note of the banks to see whether there is any dips or rises in the bank as these could follow into the canal and give you gulleys or little humps so make a note of this to .
now to try and find and cover a lot of area my first sessions would be to leap frog one rod over the other to cover as much water i do this by casting to the far bank then the near bank the middle ect ect and follow this pattern as i leapfrogged down the canal , this will give you the best chance of fish.
now also i would at least be using if allowed live baits and i would use it as a free rover .
you could also do some jigging and lures to find out more quickly that might be in there as you do not really want to be wasting to much time in an area
if no runs were forth coming .
i hope if not all above happens on this stretch i hope it makes you think as i,ve not probably covered every tactic possible for a new venue .
also see if you can find who,s catching well and where zander are concerned where bream have been caught on this stretch if the canal is generally clear see if any area are cloudy this may well be caused by bream moving up the canal again these canpay dividends also where anglers have been feeding in feed as this will attract fish in and in turn predators will follow .
alsoif there are any moorings where boat owners moor there boats up for long periods of time might well be worth also investigating as these will give shelter during daylight .

i hope this help in some way Richard

tightlines
Kevin
