with help a jobs a good un

well decided to get one last trip in this evening with my mate as it was his last chance as his holiday would be over tomorrow .
so we decided we would meet up with our friend Gary and have a relaxed social session but with the added bit of interest, Gary was going to show me some jigging tactics and hopefully i,de get my first zed on a jig (miracles can happen ) .
as me and Paul were going to be a bit earlier than Gary we decided to have a good drive round looking for likely area that would be relatively empty from other angler to give us a bit of extra room to mnove about jigging .
once we decided where we were going to go i text Gary so he could meet us there later .
we set up the rods for later on and decided to have a much needed coffee before we started and Gary time it perfectly just as the kettle had boiled typical .
we soon had our coffee and Gary grabbed two jigging rods and off we walked down the drain abit leaving paul to do a a bit of fishing .
he gave me a couple of pointers and basically left me to it .
now i,m normally used to bait fishing with 12 ft rods and these jigging rods are only 6ft long and it felt really strange to cast out these small rubber shads out not to say how hard it wasto feel for bites and the bottom .
i decided to fish directly in front of me and fan out both ways until i,de done a half circle and then i would move to a new spot and do the process over again trying to cover as much water as possible .
it must have been on my 6th cast and was gently flicking the jig up when i got a slamming take and the small rod bent over with what ever had hit the jig , it fought really great on this small set up but i manage to tame it eventually and soon had chinned this nice double figure pike out .

great i thought a first for me and what a great scrap too i could get into this luring quite easerly .
once the pics were done and the fish was safely released i went back to the waters edge and continued to throw this rubber over the drain .
i was chuffed with that pike and while i was going through the jigging motion i was trying to remember the fight .
i finished the area and moved a further 20 yards up the drain and started to do the same again .
this time i change the retrieve speed and how much i lifted the jig off the bottom and was really concentrating and was hoping i,de get a bump or a vibration to hit as Gary said surprisingly they can take it very gently .
i was just getting the jig to the inside shelf when i felt like a pluck not hesitating i struck just in case it was a take and not weed on the jig and was really surprised when i felt i had actually hooked some thing now it did not feel big at all but again the rod bent as if there was a huge monster attached .
but this was not to be but when the fish came up to the surface i was really happy i go one ! i got one ! i heard myself saying a zed on a jig Hooray ! i was well chuffed .
soon picked it out across its back Gary took a quick pic then i unhooked it and let it go brilliant i thought finally done something i always have wanted to do and catch a zed on a jig .

Gary congratulated me and i said thank lets go have a coffee and get the baits rods out for the evening and just totally chill out , as jigging can be quite demanding and its hard to concentrate constantly and recast as much as you have to .
soon we all had our coffee, and Paul let us know he,d had a small jack while we were jigging .
now we fished on into the late evening and i was constantly moving my baits about and nothing happened .
so we chatted about certain conditions we like to fish in and zedding in general and were hoping one of the rods would go off but hour after hour past with no runs off the zeds but around 10 pm i got a steady pick up and the bobbin went up and i hesitated and at this point it dropped it but i stood over the rod waiting as i felt it would pick it up again and run off sure enough it lifted gently and i think i was to quick and should have waited a bit longer cause as i struck i pulled out of it .
that was the only action we had and i missed it as well but really i was not bothered as i caught one earlier not huge but it meant i broke my duck on the jig rod and i,m going to get a little set up to use when i go now .
so thanks gary i appreciated your help and input and i manage a zed on a jig
thank you .

tightlines
Kevin
