( venue 4 ) wells creek

wells creek

This is a water that is overlooked by a lot of zander anglers myself included for a time but i have fished it for zander .
i think the reason it gets overlooked is cause firstly it shallow and narrow .
but i think the main reason it gets overlooked and only lightly fished at best is because of the pedigree of the waters that are around it ,and for this reason alone i think the zander in the creek go about virtually unfiished by the majority of zander anglers . but it is popular with pleasure anglers as it stuffed with lots of silver fish and some good bags can be had if you drop onto the right spotS.
it runs from salters lode where it winds it way along side the busy A1122 all the way through to outwell village.
wells creek is a narrow and also shallow drain with depth of 2 ft to 4 ft and with it being around 10 meters wide .
as far as i,m aware no club controls wells creek so it can be fished with a normal rod licence .
now access is limited and the area,s at salters lode and multicourt aquaduct have the best parking and these are also the most commonly fished and at multicourt aqueduct where it crosses the middle level there is also a slip way to launch a small boat from .
there is a single layby between nordelph and outwell that you can also park in and there are also some purpose built swims just over the bank here.
also you can pull of the road at nordelph on the grass opposite the junction where the popham eua joins the creek but care should be taken as it nearly on the bend .
but however if traveling light other area,s can be investigated and it might throw up a surprise or two .

but don,t let the fact that its shallow and a narrow deter you from giving it a go as it has thrown up some very good zeds indeed .
i know a couple of my good friends who have fished the creek and have had zander to 13+ also i,de read that once the then NRA which are now known as the environment agency once used to electro fish it and have had double figure zander out to 14lb .
now well creek is connected to the popham eau,s at nordelph where is runs back and is connected to the middle level just above three holes so its not surprising that the creek has a established zander population in it

tightlines

Re: ( venue 4 ) wells creek

Hurray!

Been waiting for this one! it runs almost outside my door!

First time i stuck a bait on, I had a 5lb Zander in 10 Minutes!

Its better to fish later in the day, particularly at the moment, when its crystal clear in the morning until a few boats go up it

And its a free water

Wel done Kev

Barrie

Re: ( venue 4 ) wells creek

Hello Mate, (adamjohn),

If you read bm's post fully you will see that he has already given away alot more than the usual zander angler. I have been fishing for many years for all types of specialist fish. I pride myself on discovering new areas and making my own decisions. There is a particular art and sense of achievement to tracking down that special capture. It really does annoy me when so called fishermen including the "well known". Fish off the back of another angler. This has happened to me on many occasions and it seemed at 1 point that i was being stalked by a previous record holder, resulting in me not fishing my favourite venues for 4 years. Whats wrong with doing your own investigation and finding your own hotspots! surely you no what a marker rod is! and i guess you've got eyes. (Use Them)hint hint!

Re: ( venue 4 ) wells creek

looking for my first Zed, may give this stretch a go, any recent updates to how it has been fishing? Tried the middle level drain a few years ago but blanked on 3 or 4 occasions!
