a fine and 3 pike

well i was not going to go tonight but in the end i could not help myself and headed down to the fens for a bit of zedding .
while on the bypass i wished i,de stayed at home as i got caught speeding ( i know my fault no one else to blame )

any way with the disappointment over i got down to struggling to catch bait but did manage enough for the evening session .
i quickly put the float gear back in the car and headed up the drain about a mile to a spot i wanted to try early in the season to see if there were any zeds about .
it did not take long to get my gear all set up and baited .
i sat back to see what was going to happen as dusk fell i had no interest but not long after the first run of the session came, i very fast run led to a very powerful pike running me all over the place and under the floating weed that was coming down the drain some how i managed to get it in the net and with the weed i struggle back up the bank .
this was unhooked weighed and a quick pic was taken then it was allowed to go off and sulk ,it went 9lb

the hooks were redecorated with another roach and sent back out just down the inside edge .
the floating weed was being a pain as it kept drifting down and catching on the line and dragging the bobbins up and i had to keep recasting .
i got a very sharp run i knew it was an eel so i immediately struck hoping i would miss it but not such luck and a weird battles went on but it was soon in the folds of my net again lightly hooked so unhooking was done really quick on weighing it i knew it was a new forum record so i was not to disappointed so again i took a picture and let it go

again this rod was rebaited and sent back over to the far shelf and i sat back for a brief moment as my far rod signaled to me another attack on one of my bait i again struck early and was met with a good resistance and then a lunging run i held on to it and again it was going crazy and even gave a got acrobatic display as it tried to throw the hooks but the hooks stayed firm and again i netted a decent pike of 10lb .

i soon had the rod back out in position hoping the next run was a zed after all that is what i,m meant to be catching this evening .
it was not along before the other rod signaled some mayhem going on under the surface once again i was quickly to the rod and struck it to again be met by another fiesty pike a quick battle commence with me standing close to the edge holding the rod at arms length struggling to stop the mad pike from getting in the bank side reeds .
soon this was banked and another 9lb was recorded .

once again this was let loose and i again rebaited and sat back down only to have to get up to tend to the rods again as more floating weed came down pulling me out of position .
soon the optimum time had past and i felt there was no need to stay any longer so i packed up and headed of home

tightlines
Kevin

Re: a fine and 3 pike

Hi all,

Another great report Kev, how I envy you.

I have to agree, speeding and parking offences are down to the man in charge of the car; no one else to blame.

Regards

Drew
