When does YOUR Zander season start? As the title says, what time of the year do you start zander fishing? I generally start in September, but with the weather still unseasonably warm, have held back and will be beginning my assault now (October). Did go twice in June but was so hot at night that the livebaits were dying within an hour and deads are a nightmare in the heat with all the eels about. Interested to know others thoughts on this though..

Re: When does YOUR Zander season start? firstly tez welcome to the forum yes i up untill this year i have never fished for them before october but made a choice to go a bit earlier than normal , i am well aware what can happen to zeds in the warmer month of the year but took a careful decision to go early when i believed the weather was ok (not perfect but ok ). great care was also taken when out with every thing ready if any zed were caught and if any zed look suspect it would have gone back straight away . i must admit after going earlier than october i will now be reverting back to starting in future from october the first . although bait catching is easier during the warmer month keeping them alive on a session is not and the hassle with eels when using deads is not worth the small gains that can be made . tightlines kevin ![]()

Re: When does YOUR Zander season start? Hi Tez, Welcome to the forum! (I only arrived a week or so ago and have already learn't loads off these guys!) I know what you mean about starting too early, the Eels are a nightmare, but i've always found keeping the lives ok as I put them in a bait net on a cord so they are out in the water. I think next season, i will start later as well - Right now though, its all systems go! Cheers

Re: When does YOUR Zander season start? barrie i find keeping lives in tip top conditions is to use a bucket with two lids one for carrying down the drain then the other with loads of holes in it . you can then submerge the bucket in the margins and the flow of water will pass through the lid . ![]() i found in the past with using a net especially before fish freindly nets that they would remove the slime of the fish and they would not stay fresh and alive an overly long time . also you are not having to take the net in and out stress and damaging the fish in any way as tip top baits are essential . also when on leap frogging sessions look how much less time you waste in putting fish in a bucket then moving down the drain and then tranfering them back to the net tightlines kevin ![]()
