| A Late start Guys, First report - let me know what you think I didn't manage to get out of the house till 5:30 last night, so i chickened out of going to the Relief channel and headed for the same spot on the middle Level i've caught at for the last 5 sessions. Though it was warm there was a good wind blowing down the drain and strangly a lot of weed on the surface - conditions looked great though and I managed to catch some Roach on the pole. Like Kevin and Dan, I was watching the impressive lightning show in the distance and awaiting my first run. I was suprised, and pleased, by the lack of Eel activity and hoped this would help me get more Zander than usual. At about 9:30, every one of my alarms went off and all the lines pulled out of the clips! Fearing the worst, I locked off all the bail arms and set about finding out what was going on. It turned out huge lumps of Pondweed (10-20 Ft across) were travelling down the drain, in the middle, close in and on the far side. There was nothing to do but bring all the rods in and wait. As I couldn't see the lumps of weed, I decided to recast every hour and see what happened - By 1:30am, the weed had all passed and I managed to get the rods out! After a few eel runs, things quietened down and I expected to blank - Just after daybreak, I had a positive run and struck into a fish. Managed to avoid the weed, still in the edge of the bank and quickly landed a nice fish of 8lb 4oz - After such a hectic night and not having a chance to practice my "self photography skills" I decided to get the fish straight back - so no photo's again! I guess the hassle in the night paid off and i'm more than happy with the result - I think I was really lucky to catch. So next week with an early start, i'm going to head for the daunting Relief channel - for a change of scenery. Cheers |

| Re: A Late start nice result there barrie there is nothing wrong with your post i enjoyed the read its a pain when as i call the weed rafts (tracy islands ) come down and wipe you out . it some times is so hard to continue and i can remember when i first experienced run offs and was being wipe out by the flow and tracy islands but im now used to them condition but they still are gruellers to fish in . i know they,ve been pulling the level but as soon as they get the first real winter runs off out of the way the tracy island will be less likely . tightlines kevin ![]() |
