| thoughtful session as i was not going to get another opportunity to go zedding i took my chance this afternoon . it was not long before i was pulling up along side one of the many bridges that criss cross the drains . i walked to the centre of the bridge and gazed down the drain looking for a spot to fish later on . but first there was the task of catching some bait tactics was to fish casters and catty out hemp and tares over top to try and draw the fish . it was a great session with me catching one a chuck and i was enjoying it i could have carried on all afternoon but there were zeds to hopefully be caught. like a regimental soldier the bait catching gear was put away in the car and the wedding gear was gathered up and i marched down the drain to the spot i fancied . once every thing was set up and spent a quiet half hour just watching the water and the grebes diving down working hard for there dinner . i decided after yesterday i would change another rod over to a ledger paternoster as i felt the pick ups yesterday were finicky and this was give me more of an indication and more movement for the zeds before they felt any resistance. one was sent to the far side of the drain the other paternoster was cast down to my right . the third rod was on a buoyant ledger stem that had been letting me down of late but i was going to stick it out this was also sent over to the far side but way down to the left . i double checked every thing was set up like the camera and the forceps were to hand and then settle down for some action . i knew from other sessions i had here in the past and checking my logs at home that i,de normally caught here early in the session ,and very rarely did i catch after nine so if all was going to go well it would be a early session and home early to . dusk was soon upon us and i was getting twitchy as this was hopefully when it was going to happen . then suddenly the close in paternoster was signaling some interference from something . i swept the rod back and the satisfying thump of a zed could be felt it scrapped well and tried to get in the near bank lillies that looked like they were starting to die away . i managed to scoop it up quickly in the net and carry it to the where i was going to unhook it this was no problem as it was very lightly hooked indeed i recorded a weight of 5lb 12oz not huge but was a welcome start . ![]() soon i placed it into the landing net to recover i watched it for 5 minutes trying to get out and it tried every side of my net . i grabbed the camera of the tripod and took a couple of shots of it in the net . ![]() again like last night no activity over the far side which i found strange as i used to get most action form over there but it has been a while and they might have change there routes and habits . once again the same rod was off and i struck it quick and was greeted with a defiant resistance it headed of and tried like the other fish fish to get into the lilies but i manage to stop it and turn it but i thought it might be a better fish as my loose clutch hissed line off as this fish shot off by now i had my concerns it might be a pike and it had not gave any distinctive head shakes . sure enough a very feisty pike was now up on the surface but felt it still did not want to come in and thrashed and sprayed water every where . i soon had it in the net and unhooked i estimated it about 6lb . ![]() i recast the rod out after letting the pike go and sat back and wondered why no action was coming to the far bank and after awhile i think i had the reason why which would logically bear out why no runs were coming but i,ll keep it to myself at the moment until i,m sure this make a difference . it had gone quiet and nothing was happening except a few rain drops had started to fall and as i did not have my brolly with me i made a hasty retreat and went home . tightlines Kevin ![]() Last edited by baitmaster; 10-08-2006 at 12:06 PM. |

| Re: thoughtfull session Well done Kev, another good report. Can't wait to hear why you thought the far bank wasn't producing. It's like the cliff hanger at the end of a soap opera! Cheers, Rich |
