aborted runs frustrating well went out today with Dan (norfolk boy ) wedding and i have to say most of the afternoon the weather was pants . we had to firstly catch some bait and we had to stay under the brolly it started of very well but it seemed as we were catching we were having to cast further down as the fish seemed to get further away form us. soon we had enough so it was time to change over to the wedding tackle so with it still raining quite hard we put the water proofs on and made are way to where we were going to be fishing . soon we were both set up and confidence was high with now the raining easing at first then stopping all together and as we started we had a cracking sunset to watch . ![]() we settle down and waited for some action Dan had the first take his bobbin hit the top of the rod and carried on taking line when Dan struck he completely missed it, i told him it was probably an eel this went on for the next hour or so, very short sharp takes and striking normally ended in missing it . then Dan got a good slow run and he patiently waited and i shouted hit it and on striking his rod hooped over briefly before shedding the hooks we both were gutted Dan had just dropped a zed . this might have been because it had not got the bait properly or he did not strike hard enough its difficult to say why but he knew he missed a golden opportunity . it went quiet and nothing seem to happen then i got a very fast take as soon as i struck i knew it was an eel . soon it was on the bank as was unhooks a quick weighing was done for the forum records and a weight of a 1lb 8oz was recorded . ![]() thanks Dan new record and 1 1/2 points please here is a closer look ![]() this was soon back in the water we got back to concentrating on the wedding and we constantly moved the baits trying to get a run but alas this was not to be we made the decision to pack up and call it a day as i felt we had now passed the feeding period for the evening . we were not disappointed we had enjoyed a great afternoon catching small stuff and i teased Dan with catching a ruffe which incidentally he needs for the forum species hunt . which got Dan to try for one for a while but they elluded him . when we next go out i decided to change the tactics Dan will be using and we might try another drain as this one has surprisingly not thrown one up for him . tightlines Kevin ![]() Last edited by baitmaster; 10-08-2006 at 12:04 PM.

Re: aborted runs frustrating Like Kev said it was a very frustrating session with lots of eel runs and the live baits coming back with no heads or mashed up faces. I was gutted to drop that zed and on thinking back I porbably was a little tame with the strike and should have put a bit more power in, but next time I will know and am confident I WILL catch when we are next out. The bait catching is always a good laugh and I will also catch a ruffe next time Thanks for taking me mate Oh, and no mention of the fastest snail in the world? ![]() __________________ Dan `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Big or small, look after them all! ¸.·´¯`·.¸ ><((((º> Last edited by Norfolkboy; 09-26-2006 at 09:05 AM.

Re: aborted runs frustrating Well done lads, shame about the Zeds but like you say Dan, you'll know more for next time. Learning something everytime you're out can be as important as catching the fish I reckon. Oh and I nominate that sunset as phot of the month Kev. Great shot mate. Rich.
