Talking Quick Zander Session Sharpness canal

Zander Session Sharpness canal

So at 3pm I was sitting there think why am I not fishing

With in 30 mins I had stopped off at the tackle shop and had a pint of maggots , and was heading to Sharpness canal.

Wanting to fish into the dark I did not go to my secert little place as it would be way to scary for a 15 stone grown man . But went to a popular place at the weekend for the pole boys bashing the roach.

So I arrived to find I was the only one fishing the stretch and quickly went into roach mode . After about an hour I had big trouble as it was ever 3 cm roach or nice 1lb perch every cast . Which was great fun but I get a nose bleed putting on trainers --- so this was way to energetic ( spelt wrong )

Nice little bleak I think

Some lovely Perch

I then thought back to when I fished the canel as a kid and it came to me ...... Just cast 3 foot from the bank and feed hemp.

So now I was getting roach although still a bit small

Tactics
First rod
Float / ledger stem fished on the the first shelf ( about 20 foot out 10 foot deep ) - Live roach

Second rod
Ledger deadbait on a Paternoster Sunk Float deadbait fishing center to far bank

Now it was time to fish for zander as the dusk came in I was like a little kid

Just as the light faded my float did a bob and the baitrunner told me that something had taken the bait...... I waited for a few seconds and struck .... Sod all and gutted

So within a mill second a new roach was air born and landed smack on the same area of the first take

One minute later the line was coming of the runner and I lent.

Great a fish at last I thought and then it decided to show me who was boss for a bit. BUT what was it ???

As it topped the surface I saw the tail tail colours of a zander and as she slipped into the net a little tune came into my head.

It went like " I got a zander -- I got a zander -- I got a zander"

Quickly weighed it went 7lb 4 oz on my scales and after a few munites in the landing net to let the zander recover it was off

Most of the blood is mine ( got excited and found the zanders teeth )

Cracking little sess and now Ive had the baby and the son am looking forward to catching daddy and grandad next trip

Re: Quick Zander Session Sharpness canal

Cheers guys

Seems that a few roach cut up into 1 cm chucks feed around the float gets the sent into the water thus the zander come to the float at the moment.

Need to re think the ledger rig though as the Paternoster Sunk Float rig is not getting anything at the moment. So next time will try a basic running lead rig but with the lead on a stand off to a rig ring but with a cork added to hopefully offer less resistance

Made from solar run rig kit plus a few 10mm corks added

plus might add a cork ball to the treble just to bring the bait up of the bottom a bit.

Fox popper larger ball float

Maybe over the top but if you do not try then nothing gained

Boy i must stop thinking this early in the morning

Re: Quick Zander Session Sharpness canal

well done rich nice session and a good zed too ,you are starting getting in the habit of catching them now
trouble is mummy and daddy are a lot harder to come by and the tune that comes into your head on capturing mummy or daddy can,t be wriiten on here but it goes a bit like O M G thats a big mother, follow by dancing in the style of morris dancers
i like your bouyant stem looks good i,m to not getting any action on the sunken float either so its not getting used at the moment but i all fish lives on my

tightlines
