Zander fishing sharpness canal first trip

Zander fishing sharpness canal first trip

Well a few weeks ago I scouted the sharpness canal in search of zander marks for the winter. Finally I managed to get a few hours off today so with my kit loaded I was off in search of zander.

First problems were that its bank holiday weekend and I know the boat traffic was going to be heavy of which it was for the first few hours. But what the hell , when you need to get out fishing nothing will stop you.

After a bit of a walk I arrived at my peg and the signs were good , with small fish rising and the water had colour in it

The rigs
Bubble float running paternoster
Float paired with a fox trolling float to keep the bait away from the weed

All fished on size 8 trebles frozen roach, which was all I could get at short notice

So out went the rigs and trying to remember all the great tips Kev has given me over the past few weeks I sat there like a little kid waiting for a run…..

The sun was still up but as soon as it started to fade I chopped up some roach and ground baited the float area and within 10 minutes my float gave a dip and the a glide off the left. I feed a little line and lent into a fish

Could it be a Zander my heart pounded

Not knowing what it was but knowing it was only small I soon had it to the surface and ….

A nice little zander was netted

So all the tips had paid off and my scouting had paided off as I had found my first Zander of the year.

Being a happy chappy the bait was soon back out but that was it for my short season and no more runs occurred.

But hay killed a few hours and got a little one …… Just need to find mummy and daddy next time

Cheers Kev for the tips

Re: Zander fishing sharpness canal first trip

sounds like you enjoyed your day, and a good read too.

any chance you could do a photo of the rig you used, because as a novice a running paternoster and trolling float still sound like black magic to me!!

cheers

Mike
