just had to catch in my t shirt

well today i popped over to dans (norfolkboy ) to pick up my new forum t shirt
i have to say it looks really good so thank you dan for taking the time to do this
with this done and my other jobs out of the way i had a need to get out and go zedding and what better way to chrisan my new t shirt with a zed .
so soon i was on my way down to the fens and on arrival at about 5 o,clock
the first task was to catch my bait for my session ,
so my waggler was set up and size 18 hook with either single maggot or single caster as bait .
at this point the drain started to pull off gently not surprising really with all the rain we,ve had lately , but i would make catching bait that little bit harder .
finally after two hours fishing i had caught enough baits for a session soup to the car to change over tackle .
i had decided to go up the drain a bit further to see what was about but i was very confident as the drain had just stopped and with the water being coloured it look ideal for a zander or two i was soon set up with two rods set up on ledger stems and the other on a paternoster .
again i dropped one to my left just over the reeds the middle rod at the bottom of the shelf and the right hand rod sent down the drain about a third of the way out .
it was really over cast and infact it started to drizzle but not to much to effect the fishing at all.
suddenly the rod over the reeds bleeped a couple of times and lifted the bobbin so i walked over to it and waited for some sign ,i was watching the tip waiting for it to bend towards the bait and it did very gently , then it was off and the bobbing was going up i picked up the rod and gave it a sharp strike to set the hooks and i knew i had connected with a fish it stayed deep and fought really hard it actually took line of the clutch at one point and i thought it was a big fish it was not having any of it and shook its head in defiance and tried to get in the lillies directly to my left but i applied a bit of pressure and it kited away and then surfaced and slid over the draw string of the waiting net ,it looked really fit and was nice and lightly hooked i wieghed it and it went 8lb 8oz again took some quick pics then placed it back in the net .

so as the rain stopped i could take a quick pick in the new forum t shirt (sad i know )

soon this was put back and normality was restored and i sat back and waited and this time the same rod just shot up to the top i struck and all of a sudden the right hand rod was off i flicked the bait runner on the rod i was holding put it downi struck the right hand rod and did the same when i got back to the first rod it had gone so it was back over the other rod and played in a very small zander which again was hooked right at the front between its two top teeth
tommorows double

soon i had all the rods sorted and back out and could sit back for a moment this was to be a short wait as again my far rod was of with another take but this was aborted and i got to the rod .
i recast it down the drain and went back to my seat when the same rod just shot of the line was being pulled of the baitrunner and i picked up and struck into nothing .
i checked the bait no tell tale puncture marks of azander so i assumed it was an eel .again i flicked it down close in and went back to my seat i must have been sitting downabout ten minutes before once again the same rod was of this time i was on to it quickly and once again i connected with a fiesty fish it did not fight to hard and came in relatively easy a couple of unhooking shot were done first for the handling zander post .

then a normal shot was taken before it was safely released this went 7lb exactly

all the rods were back out and my and i was just thinking it was a bit quiet when my middle rod alerted me to something developing so i was soon to the rod and waited as this was a fairly big bait soon the bobbing was rising steaderly so i lifted up and struck but pulled out of the fish i a bit dissapointed but it happens i put a fresh bait on and cast it back out . another half an hour past and another aborted take to the far rod was had but again i think with how fast it got picked up it was more than likely was an eel having a go at the bait .
i decided at this point i had had enough so i pack away and head off home a happy zedder .

tightlines
kevin
