Frozen Baits for Zander ?

Are they any good - just wondering as have bought some roach and perch

I know that fresh is best but need a back up incase I cannot get any fresh on the day ( ok Im a guy who cannot wait to catch fresh really )

So are frozen baits any good and is the any brand that is best ?

Looking forward to feed back

Re: Frozen Baits for Zander

yes you are right the fresher the better
but i,ve not found any frozen coarse deads that don,t work, infact the 8lb zed the other night fell to a frozen dead bait and so did my current PB of 14lb 10oz .
i,ve had dead baits out fish lives so when i go with out lives i still am confident that deads will work just as good .
i buy them around the

but if i could buy deads around size i think they are perfect in my opinion .
although some zed anglers prefer to use big baits of around 8oz but they get aborted takes which are from smaller zeds i would rather keep to smaller baits and miss less fish as i know i catch enough good zander on smaller baits to justify my choice of bait size .
i,ve found perch not to be a very good dead baits in my opinion , but you might find that they work on your given venue so give them ago cause every venue fishes differently .
also get some eel sections as this works very well this time of year up to about mid oct in my opinion then runs start to dry up on eel section
again with eel and lamprey i use head and middle section never done well on tail sections of either eel or lamprey .
again i cut my section about " to long on a two hook set up
if i,m going to fish smaller section cause i,m getting aborted runs i,ll cut down to to and fish on a single hook .
try and rap you baits individually in cling film this will save taken whole packets with you as if they fully thaw i don,t refreeze them and this can be wastefull in my opinion .
i do the same with lamprey as i like to buy whole lamprey i cut them up to the required size and then rap individually as well .
but saying all of that if you can get some fresh deads they will work very well in deed ,

tightlines
kevin

Re: Frozen Baits for Zander

Good info Kev
Also, I believe, Berkleys Gulp baits are an attempt to give Walleye(Zander) fishers a choice, than trying to keep fragile bait alive for fly-ins.
