Re: River Zander Fishing

Hi Dave

Thanks for the tip, we were actually discussing this same subject the other nite !!!

week before last we had another go on the same spot, but this time during the day.

Now being totally honest here, i had in the region of 12 -15 runs from zander !!

However i only managed to hook into one of about 2 lbs, which was very frustrating but still alot of fun : )

I even let one fish run with the bait for some half a minute before striking into another miss, quite hilarious watching my float zoom around lol

What we've come up with , but not as yet tried, is this , using a bait needle , to insert a size 8 or 6 through the middle of the bait, at about mid point, where the zander is most likely to grab the bait from, and also mabe another hook hanging free of the bait, about 1 inch below the bait ????

Seems logical with regards the day zander, as it appears to me, they only half heartedly take the baits during the day. I am quite confident this may work, and will let you know in due course lol.

Other then that , i've heard reports of Zeds running to 8lb along the section of canal i fish. Wow

Regards

Z Girls

hi

Z girls where on the canal at hatton do you fish - ie are you near the waterman or lower down by the balancing pools.
I fish near there..

Re: River Zander Fishing

Hi Terry,

Yes we fish below the waterman, usually in the locks themselves, the holding ponds have been very poor this year, with mainly skimmers and the odd roach and perch, mind you they have been doing a lot of work on the locks.

It can be very hit and miss with the zander however, Have you had much success yourself ???

Regards

Zed girls : )

Re: River Zander Fishing

Hi Zed Girls,

When I first started on the Gt Ouse I used to get an awful lot of runs from small Zeds, schoolies. In attempting to hit the frustrating little runs they used to give, I'd simply cut the bait up into cubes of an inch square and fish em on a size 4 or even a 6 hook. I used to hit a few more then for sure, I've had em on the drop like this, just casting the bait into the shoal and feeling for bites. They take these baits a bit more confidently.

Kind regards,
Dave
