back in the fens

as you are aware i have been laid up for the last few days with an aggrevated disc which has kept me off the banks of the drains.
but i have been good and rest it and was able to get out for a go last night .
i arrived on the drain but decided not to over do it and fish near one of the bridges on the drain in question so i did not have far to take my rods and just the other neccarry bits and every thing else could stay in the car and if need i would go and get it .
the rods were soon together and were out in likely spots and the kettle was soon on for a much needed brew . the drain had been drawn off making the water was coloured and this was optimum conditions for the zander as they like it coloured so they can sneak up unawares on there prey .
this all so made me very confident and i was resting with my coffee in my chair when suddenly my left hand rod shot off i gingerly got off the chair and hobble to the rod
and was met by the resistance and that charactistic thump and shaking of the head the fish was so in the folds of the landing net and was weighed at 6lb 3oz and quickly released .
again the rod was rebaited and sent tight to the near side reeds to my left and i was again happy that another zed was banked .about another hour past before i was alerted to the right hand rod indicating something going on below i got to the rod and waited for the indicator to rise which it seem to do right on cue and the rod was swept back and i struck into nothing .
i lost my bait and redecorated the hooks and once again dropped it out at the bottom of the near side slope .
the kettle was back on and another welcome brew was made and in the middle of drinking it the middle rod was off to a very sudden take once again the rod was swepted back and this time i connected to yet another zed of similar size this fish once again was unhooked and released quickly .
i once again sent this rod out to just about two to three yards away form the slope in the hope of a bigger zed staying near the middle of the drain .
i was soon back finishing my now luke warm coffee and now all thoughts of my pain in my back had gone ,funny how that happens when you are enjoying yourself . a double bleep sounded from my left hand rod and drew my attention to it so i moved again close to the rod and immediatley on doing so the rod was away and i lifted into the fish and this fish was having none of it as it tried to make its escape in the reeds, but i held it away and it turned and went down in front of me catching me by surprise and i nearly lost my footing .
at this point the fish felt quite heavy so i played it carefully thinking it was alot bigger than it was .i soon had it on the surface and in the darkness i could make out what look to be a large fish and it soon was sliding into the net .
i lifted the net thinking this is very close to a double but on weighing it it went 9lb 8oz which is still a very good fish .

this is my 20th fish over 9lb for this season and another stunning fish aswell .
it was soon release to go and grow bigger for me to catch next season .
no furtyher fish came to my rods but i really did not care once again the fens have been kind to me and i thanked them as i left and i will be back soon chasing my rainbow but for some reason i really am getting good vibes that it is tantalisingly close now and i think my dream is going to soon be a reality , but i must not get over confident cause it might not happen.

tightlines

Thumbs up Re: back in the fens

Cracking report & some cracking fish Baitmaster. Only ever caught Zander in Germany. Got the most evil looking eyes of any fish I know. Guess thats what makes them such a perfect predator.
