through the reeds to get them zeds

i thought long and hard before going this evening as the weather was appalling ,which meant that the strong southerly wind would be funneling down the drain making it very difficult to fish and the rain would just make it a real pain .
so the decision was to go for it as you will not catch your dreams looking out the window .i was soon on my way and found myself pulling up at the drain thinking maybe this was not such a good idea as i got a mouthful of wind and rain it was a struggle to walked up right but i soon got to a real good looking spot so i made two gaps in the reeds to past my rods through and also made sure i could get my net through to land a fish if i,m lucky .
the rods were threaded through the small opening i made and two baits were lowered tight in to the reeds and the third rod was flicked up stream into the wind about a third od the way across .i tried to put the brolly up but it was not going to happen so it was put back in the bag and i huddle down near the rods trying to keep out of the wind and rain .it was now 4.30pm and suddenly a sharp pull on my left hand rod indicated something was showing interest in my offering ,and sure enough it was off and i soon sweptthe rod back to the satisfying thump of a zed .it really was fighting well and staying deep and i also was having a private battle with the wind in my landing net but i managed to get it in the water to scoop up the now waiting zed .i scrabble up the bank and quickly unhooked it and weighed it and yet another double was being recorded ( what a season i,m having for doubles )
this went 10lb 8oz
the rod was soon back out and i was very happy now and some how the wind and rain did not affect me any more.
another half an hour past and the same rod indicated to me another attack was being mounted on my dead roach i scramble to the rod and waited for it to take it and run ,i did not have to wait long and again i struck into a very fiesty zed which i soon overcome and unhook it and weighed it at 7lb .
this was soon released to reek more mayhem and the rod was once again lowered into the margin swim, a little while past and the far rod was off and i was on it in a flash but drop it .
the rod was soon redecorated and despatched to its spot i returned to my huddling spot to keep out of the difficult windand driving rain , however i was out in the wind as the rod i just sent out was off once again and it was sounding i struck and a positive thump told me i had connected once again and this was soon banked and weighed and i recorded it at 6lb 2oz this was released and rod was once again sent out as i put the bobbin on ,my other far rod was off and i found my self up and back down to the rod and struck yet again into a solid feeling fish which gave good account for its self . but it was soon floundering on the surface waiting to be scooped up by my waiting net and again this was unhooked and weighed this went 6lb 8oz .
sadly this was the last run but i can,t say i was to unhappy about getting out of the weather and was looking forward to getting home to dry off and get a nice cuppa down me .

tight lines

kevin (baitmaster )

Re: through the reeds to get them zeds

thank you smoothy hopefully the 14lb zed next week will look much better .

yes its right you will not catch your dream fish sitting at home looking out the window ,
thats why i,m fishing really hard at the moment as i feel i,m at the top of my fishing where zeds are concerned and i would like a really big zed to top of my fish list where zeds are concerned, and i have the backing of my better half as well .
believe it or not to go out and catch any double figure zed is very hard ,unless you are really lucky and this does happen, but i feeel with this season having 8 doubles which is the most doubles i have had in one season and i think while the momentum is with me i will fish and try to catch the fish i would like to catch over 15lb or as i like to say (chasing the rainbow ).
to put this into perspective a 15lb zed woulb be equivalent to 50lb plus carp or a 35lb plus pike in terms of size to record .
so keep an eye on the reports cause i,m going to try and make it happen but at the end of the day i will still need a slice of luck

tightlines
kevin
