first zed for the new year

went out this week end with my piking mate who wanted to catch some so we drove down to the fens where hopefully we could get an area where we can catch both species pike and zeds ,
once we picked are swim we soon had are base camps sorted and rods were put out at around 6 pm, i had my first run which i promptly dropped this was followed very quickly by another which i connected with and landed quickly and it went 7.8 soon the rod was back out and another short wait was followed by my bobbin and indicater signaling another zed attack and yet another small zed of 6.2 was banked and this was soon released and no further run came until the morning as the pike came on the feed the day was slow for me but my mate had a few pike on the bank as the day turn to late after noon i was back into zed mood and was excited about the prospect of a fish as darkness fell no run had came and i thought with the wind change no fish might not come but at about 7.30 i got a good take and a scrapy 6.8 was banked no further action came until midnight when i was woken by a short sharp pull on my middle rod and i slipped my bivvy boots on and was soon on the rod the fished put up a good account for itself and was soon flandering towards the net ,
on lifting the net i knew my seventh double of the season had just been banked and from an area that i rarely fish as its to public .the scales past 11lb and settled at 11lb 4 oz and the fish was tubed up for some pics in the morning.

i was happy now and went back up to my bivvy and made a cuppa before going back to sleep .
just before first light i was awoken again by a run as once again i was on to it quickly this again scrapped well and a zed of 6.2 was banked
once my mate was up we took a few shots of the double figure zed and released it back to reak further havoc on the shoals of roach that are about .
although i have not mention the pike i also had a total of 5 pike with two of them getting into the double figures and my mate had 6 good pike and one small zed at 7,2 so a good week end was had by us and hopefully we will get a chance to try the area again soon

tightlines
