Re: tactical change Hi baitmaster zander loves to lie up under snags ect and so cast to bushes trees ect also you (must) use a deep diving lure because they will not come up in the water very often and green is a a good colour good luck!!! ![]()

Whilst not a Zed fisherman and a relative novice to Pike fishing, I would assume that a lure fishing approach would be a methodical working of the area around your chosen swim with a lure that is similar in size and shape to the Zeds current prey fish. Or something of a shape and colour that would provoke a strike by the Zed. Either way it would be perhaps wise to try the near bank first, as if there are any fish there, they may be spooked by the constant retrieval or landing of fish over the top of them. As I am not sure of the behavioural characteristics of Zander I am shooting in the dark here. Given that you understand their behaviour patterns in seasonal weather / light and their feeding pattern leads them to feed at certain times of the day. My choice of lure would be something in the shape and size of their natural prey, I have been looking at the sovereign baits range of lures and I think the “Realistic” fish range of shads with black backs and silver bellies would be my preferred choice. As for lures that provoke a strike anything gaudy such as fluorescent yellows and oranges seem to work well for Pike, or perhaps something Gold or Silver from the Jelly dog range of lures? I am going to try some of the Storm white, green, orange and blue shads in the smaller sizes as I think they may come in useful for Pike. Perhaps they are worth investigating for Zeds? I always have a wire trace in front of the lures and I would highly recommend a “BB” swivel, they are a bit expensive but and the best in my opinion. I use them in conjunction with a good quality split ring, suitable in size to the lure being used. Just my thoughts and I hope it does not sound like I am teaching “Granny how to suck eggs”. I hope this helps. Good Hunting!

Re: tactical change thank you for that smoothhound that is most helpful you are not teaching granny to suck egg at all i appreciate it you know i fish a lot for them zeds and by now i should be confident enough with the species to go out a catch them but however as never lured fished i think every bit of advice i can gather is important regardless of all ready being able to catch zeds confidently and i am prepared to listen and take advice from any one regardless of age or ability , fishing is a constant learning curve through life so once again thank you for your info tightlines baitmaster ![]()
