| My last couple of trips Littleport 12.01.12 My old man was over from Cyprus for a week and fancied a day’s fishing, so I took him to an area on the Ouse that is meant to be full of small Roach, Perch etc...I have never seen or fished this area before and with a heavy frost forecast I was not expecting too much action, but I was amazed at the amount of fish there was topping when we arrived around 8.30am. We both caught Roach, Rudd, Perch, Rudd and a few Ruffe all day long. The old boy enjoyed himself and I was well happy as I managed to take a few Roach and Rudd back for the freezer. Littleport 13.01.12 The following afternoon I decided to fish the same area as the day before. The weather forecast was not good with the temperatures forecast to be below freezer. I was hoping that with all the small fish about the Zander would not be too far away. I arrived around 3.00pm and started off catching a few fresh baits before setting up for the night. Out went three rods baited with fresh dead Roach and Rudd. I had three runs during daylight, the first fish threw the hooks and the other two were small Jack Pike. During the night I had four runs, one was dropped and the other three were again jack Pike. I spent the night praying that I had no runs as the temperature dropped to -4. As soon as it was daylight I was packed up and home for a hot bath.River Ouse 18.01.12 I arrived at the Ouse mid afternoon and set up in a swim that had produced some decent Zander for me over the last month or so. The weather was much milder, overcast and damp. I was not very confident as the last week or so had been very cold; however I do enjoy chilling out on a fishing bank with no one to bug me. I fished with three rods baited with Roach, Bleak and Rudd. One rod fished just off the near shelf, the second rod in the centre of the river and the third rod was cast the far shelf. The first three hours was very quiet, not even a bleep. Just as daylight faded I had a couple of bleeps on the middle rod and the indicator rose very slowly, I immediately struck and connected with a fish. After a very poor fight I had a Zander around the 3-4lb mark on the bank. I re cast and around an hour or so had passed when the middle rod bleeped again. The indicator rose slowly and I struck straight away. I immediately knew it was a half decent fish, but after a short fight I had landed this Zander 10.3/4lb Ouse Zander I fished to 7.00pm before heading home. I am hoping to have another crack at the Zander Friday night; hopefully another double will put in an appearance. Darrell |
