Re: Celtic lakes ,frisby Hi below is what I found on their web site. Zander are very timid and wary biters so a sensitive setup is a must. When ledgering, ensure the lead is running smoothly on the line. Try using run rings. The so called ‘Kebab Rig’, hair rigged chunks of roach or bream, also works very well using size 8 or 10 single hooks. This is a fantastic rig for Zeds. Pegs around the island inlets (40-50) are very good swims as is the point swim (Number 1&2). Peg 54 in the bay entrance is also a very good Zed swim. good luck Darrell

Re: Celtic lakes ,frisby Hi Below is a piece I done on an earlier tread. Use 10-12 main line. Carbo flex trace in 10lb is perfect. Use Fox or John Roberts free running rings. Use a decent sized wieght. Use the lightest bobbin you have and fish with an open bail arm. Where I fish there is a three rod max rule. I fish with one rod dead Rudd/Roach. One rod with trout fillet (fished with a feeder stuffed with trout) and the third rod fished with Eel section. Cast one rod to the far shelf, one middle and the third near shelve. Be patient, dont keep reeling in and recasting. Cast to the same areas, building up the scent trail from the baits. If you are catching in one area, keep the others baits in the original areas. I have had times when I was catching small Zander on the near shelf rod then to have a run on the middle/far shelf rod, resulting in a much larger zander. This happens quite often I have found that the trout and Eel section produce the bigger Zander, but I have also caught big Zander on Rudd and Roach. When using Eel section try hair rigging two inch chunks, I have found hook up rates better and fish loses reduced. I hope the above helps, it works on the pits and drains I fish. Darrell

Re: Celtic lakes ,frisby Sorry, I did not mention hook sizes. I would fish with a 18" trace, two size 8s semi barbless trebles approx 3-4" apart. If there is a single hook rule and when using a hair rig, I use a size 3 or 4 Raptor Darrell

Re: Celtic lakes ,frisby 2.3/4lb will be OK and are perfect for distance work. The most important thing is a softish tip. Zander shake their heads a lot during fight and especially at the net. A rod that is too stiff can result in the hooks being thrown. Zander don't fight as hard as Pike and as the temperature falls so does their fighting qualities. January / Feb time the fishing can be a little slower at this time of the year. Obviously location is the key, but you will probably get as many Zander during the day as you would at night. The way the weather is at the moment we may have a very mild Jan/Feb which will be ideal. Don't expect screaming runs at this time of the year, it can happen, but a lot of the time the indicator may only move an inch or two then the bait is dropped. Darrell

Re: Celtic lakes ,frisby Hi mate,`Had a couple of days on the sailing club lake in October. The fishing was very slow with only one Zed of 6lbs and a jack pike on the second day. I usually fish the Fens and thought Id`give this place a bash as its nearer for me. The fishing aint cheap at £25.00 for a 24 hour session, which would pay for a lot of water in the Fens. Maybe one day Ill return but I worked hard for those two fish and Ive easier options down Fenland. Whatever you decide ,best of luck.
