Re: glos canal zandering Nov 2011

Hi, I have not posted on here before, but i have done a number of trips on the canal since late November in search of zander, so far I have only had jacks and perch fall for my lures and live/deads. I have fished quite a few stretches, but have yet to catch one from there. I mainly have been doing dawn trips or late afternoon into dark.

Glad to here some of you are still catching them in this mild weather, which is encouraging, as I plan to be out tomorrow and/or Monday.

Re: glos canal zandering Nov 2011

I'd say that the canal at Netheridge was too coloured today for effective lure fishing Ben, and with todays rain still to take effect via Daniels Brook you would be better off going south to find some clearer water.

If deadbait fishing then its not a problem.

Re: glos canal zandering Nov 2011

Hi, yes I was out on wednesday and looked at that stretch first before headin south, it was too coloured then, so what with all the rain we have had today, it's not going to improve, so I will be out with the deads over the next few weeks, unless I can catch some lives, I don't have much experiance fishing for z's with deads/lives only pike and perch so it's going to be a nice learning curve I hope, as my previous zander captures from the local rivers have all been on lures.

I did see there was a match on that stretch few days prior, but I don't know what the results were like? I don't really know for sure, but i imagine they cant be that far away.

No luck for me y'day, E.P, although it was good to get out on the GS after zeds at last, and great to meet you. A very wet day and the old brolly was getting battered by the wind. I stuck it out until 5.45 PM but no joy.
I shall return !

I've still not done any fishing into dark yet so must think about doing that too.

Also met Garren today which was good - I hope my tips/method will help you bank a few mate. Did you get anything later ?

My problem right now though is a shortage of baits. I didn't get to stock up in the Autumn so may have to buy a few to keep me going
Hi Steve

I fished the Ouse on Wednesday night, it was slow going, but I managed three small Pike and five Zander, three small ones, an 8lb fish and an 11.2lb beauty.

One my lads from work wanted to have ago at the Ouse Perch, yesterday and last night we fished an area recommended by a local. I targeted the Zander as usual, while Wayne went after the Perch. Wayne had a 2.4lb Perch within a couple of hours of starting. Sadly that was his only bite. I had two small Pike early on then not I bite from the Zeds through the night

After seeing the beauty if the big Perch, I may stick a rod to target Perch while I am Zander fishing next.

All the best for 2012 everyone

Darrell

Hi Darrell

Eight fish ain't slow going mate

You are still finding fish of a good size, well done.

Over here on the 'West Side' I'll keep plugging away at it for a while to see if a bigger fish is around. It could be that they are more likely to show themselves once darkness falls so I'll give an evening session a go soon. The current daylight fish are all falling in to the 3-6lb range (and usually at the lower end) Failing that, I'll have to think about moving to another zone and try to find the more solitary bigger fish.

I did have a few more 'knocks' yesterday but once again there were either liners or very, very small Zeds

Well I have been spoilt on my previous few trips Steve, and brought back down to earth with a bump!!

I would concerntrate on the areas you are catching the smaller Zeds. The big girls wont be far away.

I have been catching Zeds of all sizes during my sessions, then out of the blue, normally when things have been quite, a bigger Zed puts in an appearance.

I am sure that when you put in a few more hours into darkness you will get the bigger Zeds.

Re: glos canal zandering Nov 2011

Only a Pike today about 7lb . I had a couple of dropped takes though that must have been 'Micro' Zeds.

A bright day - so not ideal conditions.
