Zander season has begun Hi all Due to work commitments I have not done a thread on here for a while, but I have been in contact with a few forum members and regularly have a read up. My Zander fishing started at the beginning of September. I have done Severn night sessions now; my first was on Roswell pits and was a total blank, not even a run. The second session was again on Roswell. The session started well, four small Zander within a couple of hours of starting, then nothing for the rest of the session. All fell to dead Roach and Rudd My third trip was on the River Ouse near Ely. I only caught two Zander, one that barely went over the 1lb mark and a 9+lb fish both fell to Rudd dead baits. I also caught a good net of Bream up to 5lb. My fourth trip was again on the Ouse, a different area; two small Zander fell to Roach and Eel section. The fifth trip was again on the River Ouse, one small pike and three Zander, the three Zander were all under the two pound mark. A bit disappointing to keep catching the smaller Zeds but it is looking good for the future. The sixth trip was to Roswell, this time I caught three better Zander, from memory they were 4lb, 7lb and 8.5lb, two fell to Rudd dead baits and one to Eel section. My seventh session was last Friday night. Three dropped runs and I was thinking that was it, but at 3.30am I had a run that I connected with. After a short but spirited fight I landed a 12.13lb Zander. Bait again was dead Rudd. I had two more dropped runs before it was time to head home. Roll on next week Darrell

Re: Zander season has begun Nice one Darrell. See you are still putting in the hours. I've done a bit myself over the last few weeks. Quite a few small ones but thankfully a couple in the 6/7lb bracket. I'll continue to dable between my Barbel sessions and hopefully get one like yours. Go steady Steve __________________ E' Pest

Re: Zander season has begun Eels are a major problem fishing deads into dark on the Severn. An exceptionally mild start to Oct isn't helping !! Out of interest do you guys get 'pestered' by eels at night on the 'Eastside' River here quite low also, but I don't see that as an issue for Zeds ('tiz for Barbel though). I've a bit of time off next week and will be spending most of it fishing for Zander. (Mainly because I did a whole week for Barbel back in Sept and blanked. I'm not keen on repeating the experience) ![]() __________________ E' Pest
