bite indicators Hi guys. I am trying to find the best bite indicator for zeds. I had some misses last week and i am wondering how you detect the bites. Until now i was fishing with the rod tips high and nothing else. I am wondering if its better to use electronic bite indicators and the tip pointing the bait? ![]()

Re: bite indicators Do you fish pike style with an open bailarm ? I fish for pike with my rod tips slightly in the air with a pair of fox micron alarms, with the hangers at the rear. Headless knows more about predator fishing than me so he may be able to help you more __________________ Species 2011.. Common carp,Mirror carp,Pike,Rudd,Dace,Eel,Bream,Perch,Roach,Barbel, Chub

Re: bite indicators i am fishing ledgering style, bairunner reels and for i watch my rod tips for the bites (sometimes i use and bell indicator on the tip of the rod). Most of the times i use the paternoster rig to avoid the weed and the trees.

| Re: bite indicators Id buy some alarms then m8, with a pair of hangers, . you dont have to pay the world for a decent set if you but second hand. Or if you want to go old school you could use the penny on tin method, cast in, tighten up then slowy release a little line to pin the line with a penny on top of some sort of tin, fish bites... line pulls... penny makes noise on tin (google it) __________________ Species 2011.. | Re: bite indicators Hi I would always try and point the rod at the bait, not always possible. I use delkins or fox alarms on the front rest and a fox swinger on the rear rest. set the adjustable clip so the line is released at the slightest movement of the line. I have also purchase some cheap swingers and removed the clip mechanism altogether, just leaving the metal rod which I put a slight downward bend in it. when the fish takes the line the metal rod will rise and the line falls off the metal rod. The movable weight can be moved to adjust the tension to suit conditions. I always fish with an open bail arm, it is my preference but numerous anglers use the baitrunner system. It is a personal choice. I am more confident using the open bail arm and feel it has resulted in many more hooked Zander. I have attached a couple of pictures of my set up, not very clear but should give you the basics. I used to live in Cyprus, I did not realise that Zander were stock in the waters there. I used to catch mainly Carp and Large mouth Black Bass. What waters do you fish? Darrell |

Re: bite indicators Well we have some good zander in two dams actually. Evretou and Kourris. The biggest zander caught in Cyprus was 8kg. The common size is 2-3 kg.

Re: bite indicators Hi I used to fish Kourris nearly every week for two years. I am going back to 1974, The main species then was Carp, Bass, Roach and we even caught Mullet in there, I believe the mullet were stocked as an exsperinent. I never heard of Zander being in there in 1974. do you know when they were introduced? Darrell

Re: bite indicators Here's a version from me. he open bale-arm set up is used for predator fishing, this is because with species like Perch and Zander they need to be able to pick up a bait with minimal resistance. The open bale arm set up allows the fish to collect the bait and then run with it pulling line directly from the spool. This is achieved by placing an indicator on the back rod rest and putting the line directly beneath the spool into the clip (which should be set to the minimum strength). Then when the fish pulls, the line comes free from the clip. This can be coupled with an electronic indicator such as the E.T. Backbiter (pictured) or a Ghetto Blaster type alarm. ![]() Below is a home made version using an old film cannister this is my prefered version and i use a regular bite alarm on the front rod rest for audio indication. ![]()
