A Quick Zed Trip

Went zedding last night, got there about 2 hours before darkness, 3 rods out nearside , farside and middle of the drain. Approx 30 mins before dark had a good run , struck and into a fish , a small zed , i could see it on the surface half way across the drain and only lightly hooked. it had one more shake of its head and the fish was off.. Recast same spot, nothing for 45 mins, then nearside alarm is going struck into a fish a small pike about 4lb landed, unhooked and returned.
After that i had 2 really fast runs both times struck into thin air, then 4 or 5 small bites, came to nothing,,, a bit of action for a short trip, the small bites might have been eels, not sure,, all baits were popped up roach deads. until next time.

Re: A Quick Zed Trip

Unlucky on the Zander front Martopp, better luck next time.

Have you tried striking as soon as there is a bite indication? I have tried this over the last few weeks and it has resulted in good hook up rate.

On my pop up rod, the bites have be just slight indication, nothing more. I have also found that the pop up rig has only produced small Zander while the other two rods have had the better sized fish..... Not sure why!! Maybe a bait hard on the bottom is more natural.

Darrell

Luckily there is no crab problem where I fish, there are a couple of areas that have Crayfish but they are not about in numbers this time of the year.

I had a couple of blanks during January, missing half a dozen quick runs. luckily my last three sessions have been good. Most of the runs have been slow, hardly moving off, the few that did take off I also connected with.

Last Friday I had five runs and hooked and landed everyone of the Zander, that doesn't happen very often!!

Look forward to your reports

Darrell
