| Re: newbie sayin hi and after tips Hi well come to the forum, I spend 80% of my time after Zeds but that is in the Fens mainly. There are some forum members that fish the Severn out your way and I am sure some one will be able to help you with what areas to try etc.... Darrell |

| Re: newbie sayin hi and after tips Hi Handse You’re a brave man to spend a night on a boat on the river in these conditions; I wish you the best of luck . Surely you aren’t going alone?Well it’s no secret that some good Zed fishing can be had on the Lower Severn and the WAvon (The current record fish is from the the Severn – I believe other ‘Record Fish’ captures across the UK haven’t been recognised). http://anglingtimes.blogspot.com/200...lown-away.html ![]() I fish a number of sections down from Worcester, but confess that my time Zed fishing hasn’t been great due to Barbel distractions. However, my preferences/experiences for what they are worth :- Bait – Must be coarse fish. Livebait in daylight preferred. Deadbaits with head removed for scent/blood leakage. Rigs – Resistance free. Eg small floats, run rings with ledger rigs. (Worth reading other rig related posts on this forum) Weather Conditions – Preferred overcast other wise fish early/late. Bright light not good if river is running clear. River Conditions – Anything from NSL to +2ft (0.6m) Some colour helps (I’ve not done well in ‘Chocolate’ conditions, high flood water or in this cold. ![]() http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk...stationId=2022 Location – I haven’t personally found a hot spot but a mate who has a boat and echo sounder has located a few deep holes that do produce – apparently the depths in the river vary quite considerably so find something like this and you could do well. I bank fish and try to keep mobile during the day, so travel light to fish many swims. I guess its bait fish location that is the key. Where do you intend to launch as I’m only familiar with Upton Marina. Steve __________________ E' Pest |

| Re: newbie sayin hi and after tips Hi and welcome, Although I only fish the Fens myself for Zeds, theres supposed to be some fantastic fishing down your way. If you can get hold of the dvd Predators, there is an episode on Zander with Matt Hayes lure fishing between Upton and Tewkesbury using slimline deep diving lures. Oh and be carefull as BAA have a ridiculous live bait ban. |

| Re: newbie sayin hi and after tips Yes a recent rule, difficult to enforce if you're in a boat ![]() ![]() ![]() Or just don't fish BAA waters I think the vid you refer to has also been on Matts' TV programs - He lost a Pike that grabbed a small Zed if I remember correctly. I believe he also 'Guides' for predators on the Severn if you want to pay for his experience. http://www.matthayes.tv/trips/ Honestly though, the Severn isn't that difficult. | Re: newbie sayin hi and after tips Yes the episode was with Mick Brown, Matt caught a zander and a pike grabbed it while he was reeling in. The pike followed the bait in but let go near the surface. |
