Wire preference

Hi all, Im interested in which wire you all prefer for Zedding. In the past ive used Drennan soft strand,Drennan green and Fox easytwist all in 20lb breaking strain with different results. The easytwist was good until I lost a good double when it snapped on the swivel twist and the Soft Stand is more or less trashed after one fish.
This brings me to the Drennan Green which ive tried along side the Soft Strand and I cant buy a run on this stuff, bringing me to the conclusion that its too visible and stiff. At the moment im sticking to the Soft Strand but would like others views please
Thanks in advance
Andy

Re: Wire preference

Hi mate
I use the Fox Carboflex in 10lb breaking strain. It has never let me down. There are in my opinion two draw backs with the stuff

1, Each trace will only last for one or two Zeds/Pike
2, The price of the wire and crimps

Carboflex used in Twenty pound BS should last a few more fish.

I have tried other wires but dont like any of them. I found the Drennan Green kinks far too easily

Re: Wire preference

Hi Guys - I havent seen this in the flesh yet but Pro Logic Savagear Soft-Flex Wire may suit your needs. Looks like it could be a kink free material.

http://www.veals4carp.com/2120/Pro-L...dy-Brown-.html

Softflex is a unique 19-strand, stainless steel wire. It is coated with a fine silky polymer, making it strong and abrasion resistant, yet very flexible. In fact, this Japanese-made wire is so flexible that you can tie a knot directly to your lure, fly, braid, fluorocarbon or monofilament. This means that you can now make kombi traces very easily and get the best possible action of your soft lures.

Presumably you could crimp as well although there don't seem to be Prologic crimps, bench tests with another maufacturers wouldn't be a bad idea.

If it does what it says it should be good, worth a try I think

Re: Wire preference

Only concerns may be 1) Teeth stripping the coating ? 2) Thickness it's 0.35mm thick - will the flexibility negate this ?

Off to the shops for a butchers me thinks

Re: Wire preference

Im suprised at carboflex only lasts one or two fish mate as ive used the 20lb stuff for piking and you could tie your boots with it mate. Having said that, the 10lb wire may be the way to go if its a good bit finer. Ive been guilty of using 10lb Soft Strand in the early days and this stuff was like cotton to look at but it never snapped on me once and if you look towards our Dutch and American friends they like to keep things light ie 10lb braided lines straight through.

Re: Wire preference

Let us know what you think mate, as theres a definite gap in the market for a new Zed wire.

I have found that the 10lb wire stretches where it enters/exits the Zander's mouth. I do strike quite hard to make sure the hooks are set, maybe this is when the stretching occurs or when The Zeds give a good head shacking. It normally only happens with Zander over 5lbs

I have at times had the Carbon coating stripped near the hooks but not very often

Re: Wire preference

hi guys, i have used various wire , still use the 12lb green wire, i can live with changing rigs every 1 or 2 fish ( it does help that i use to work in a tackle shop so got every thing at trade price)... however that new wire mentioned above sounds good might be worth a look..
