A little better

After being shown up by my 14 year old a couple of weeks ago I had another trip the following Friday(16Th) evening with my 10 year old Robbie, I did better but not much, 18 hrs of fishing and only a 12" pike to show for the effort, I miss a couple of screaming runs but left the venue wondering what I am doing wrong

Friday 23rd
I ventured out on my own for the night with not a lot of confidence. I arrived at the pits with no one else was there, so I had the pick of the swims. I decided on an open swim with two islands either side

I started around Lunch time and approx 3.00pm I had a run which resulted in a Pike over 3ft long, it should have weighed 20lb but it was so thin I don't think it made 10lb, Probably spent the last few weeks expelling all its energy on the females, makes me wonder why am I so Fat? LOL

Early evening four other anglers turned up and decided to fish the next four pegs, Gutted, my confidence was shattered as I felt the more anglers the less takes I would get

As it got dark I missed numerous runs, I could feel the culprits while I was holding the line between my fingers but could not connect, I was starting to wonder if they were small Eels/Zander or crayfish but the baits were not marked. I was fishing small Dead Rudd ledgered on the bottom.

Around 10ish I had a screaming run and connected with a fish at last, It turned out to be a Zed of approx 6-7lb, as I was releasing the fish I had another take, this time it was a nice Zed of 9.5lb (what a scrap)

Sorry I missed part of my head off again LOL

I missed a few more bites, again I could feel the culprits on the bait but nothing on striking

At 2.30am I had another screaming run which was solid when I struck, it fought hard and I was thinking I had a big Pike but to my delight a stunning Zander of 12.5lb was in the net

Over the moon I settled down for a few hours sleep but the bloody geese where on form

I crawled out of my shelter around 6ish to be met with this sight

It was better than seeing my missus first thing in the morning LOL

I had another Zander of 8lb as I was brewing the tea and missed three other runs as the sun rose, the water was clear so I was expecting any takes to be very tentative:

After the last couple of weeks I am over the moon, especially as the other anglers caught no Zander

Darrell
