| Reccy on the canal With all this talk about next weeks meet i took a rod down to the canal for a few hours. I got there about 3.30 just as a match was weighing in. The match men said there had been a few zander caught then pointed me in the right direction. This is the swim that I set up in.  Because it was a last minute thing the only bait I could get hold of was trout. So I cut it in to inch cubes and smaller. I tied my own traces with drennen titanium and used single korda wide gape size 4’s. I fished with 10lb fireline , no lead and my trusty old technuim specialist (stepped up avon rod)  Within 20 minutes of casting in, I had a bit of a tug. So I pulled off a foot of line so there was no resistance. Then a couple of seconds later I had another tug which resulted in this little beauty.  I was over the moon!!!!!! My First Zander. I had 1 more knock that didn’t result in anything but that didn’t matter. I think with a better bait you would definitely have a few. Last edited by fishypaul; 01-03-2010 at 07:12 PM.     |
