Re: Stillwaters or Rivers Both environments change as the weather cools. Due to the motion of the water, esp after flooding, river fish need to feed more, in order to keep going. Fish will head to deeper slower water. Rivers fish well when the temps have been consistant for a while, you need to study the water course on rivers in the winter, has there beena snow melt upstream? This would lead to an injection of very cold water which would slow the feeding down quite dramaticaly. With regard to still waters, shallow lakes wll heat up quicker, and these venues are likely to fish well after a mild spell. Theree is a book called 'Better Angling with Simple Science', which goes into the science of tempreture, its rading and analysis. You may have ot hunt around for it.

Re: Stillwaters or Rivers Hi, had my biggest Zander in cold weather off a river and tend to favour deadbaits for the bigger fish as I feel, that not unlike Pike, the bigger/older fish are more inclined to scavenge and dont expend as much energy as their smaller/younger bretheren. Dave Lavenders Fen record was caught in March as are many other biggies which are reported each season, probably due to gaining weight prior to spawning.. In my own experience I have caught more Zeds in the daytime in winter especially on those dour days with not much daylight. Cheers Andy

Re: Stillwaters or Rivers Thanks for your advise mate, March this year I had a 13lb Zed on dead bait during the daylight on the Ouse I am struggling to catch them during the daylight hours at the moment but I am doing alright as soon as it gets dark and dead baits are producing the most runs Darrell
