Aborted runs

Hi all

I had some problems with aborted runs today, I over came the problem by striking as soon as there was an indication, i allowed the bobbin to rise 3 inches then i struck which resulted in the next 3 bites conecting with 3 zander which i landed, all the Zeds were only hooked with one treble, easy for unhooking but if i had lost any of them i would have been gutted, does anyone have any advise on inproving the hooking rate
I know some of you will say that the dropped runs are small Zeds but the 3 i landed were 3lb,7lb and 13 lb, and all the bites were the same,
I am fasinated by Zeds and i do not mind what size i catch.
Some of you have mentioned single hooks, What size single hooks should be used?, is there a rig anyone uses which will decrease aborted runs?
Has anyone tried a semi bolt rig?

I am a bit of a novice at Zander fishing so any info would be appreciated

cheers

Darrell

Re: Aborted runs

i'm a novice with the zeds like you mate,i have only caught a handful , i do however get the impression that they are sensitive to resistance,i would suggest pointing your rods at the baits and the lightest bite indicator you can get away with,
other then that i dont really know, zed rigs are beyond me,there are a couple of zed men on here hopefully they will help you

Zanderandy is on a distinguished road
Re: Aborted runs

Hi mate, Good advice from Paul, sometimes on certain days the Zeds can give you very tentative takes but yet on others can pull your rods in. Ive never found out why this should be, but when theyre in this mood I tend to very gently remove the drop off and wait for line to start passing through the rings before striking. Ive no experience with single hooks as I only use partridge doubles which I find fantastic.
Still your not doing too bad mate getting a 13 on the bank as I know some lads who have been Zandering for 10 years or more still waiting for a fish to that size. Well done.

Re: Aborted runs

Hi all

Thanks Zanderandy for your info on the hooks, i will look into the partridge hooks and try them out, I did not realise a 13lb zander was such a good specimen, I had five more on Friday, 3lb, 6lb, 7.5lb, 8.5lb and 9.5lb but again i missed 4 or 5 more runs. Just as i was starting to find time and the venues (thanks to the Fishing Forum) the season is nearly over
