| Re: 8s or 10s? I use the older style fox drop off set up under an open bale arm, with the front alarm being Delkim. One thing I never use is braid as livelies keep making the alarm bleep intermittently, even with it set on minimum sensitivity. I must say the rollover indicators made by Barrie look the business but Im pretty sure the majority of dropped takes come from small schoolies and in summer Eels. |

| Re: 8s or 10s? two ways of looking at it Andy; 1) they are as resistance free as you can get, if this floats your boat. 2) they are very sensitive when set up correctly. so you can be on the take quickly. could just be a combination of experiance and conincidence but my hook up rate before using the rollovers was a about 1 in 10 (I was crap though!) now it's closer to 8 in 10. |

| Re: 8s or 10s? Sounds interesting Dave, they certainly look good in the respect of staying stationary in windy weather. I know what you mean about hook ups mate and im definately no expert but what I try to do is get the drop offs on a long drop and at the first sign of a lift or drop I very carefully remove the drop off and wait for line to move through the rings and hit the take. I agree that the rollovers are as resistance free as you will get and there looks like there would be absolutely no change in resistance during the take, which is not something you can say about drop offs. | Re: 8s or 10s? Think it (bite indication) also depends on the set up, for a ledgered bait, live or dead on still waters/ slow rivers i use ordinary (lightweight) solar hangers as i find livebaits tend to keep fairly still and the odd bleep is not a problem(sometimes alerts me to a predator moving in for a bite). I use Aero GTM's and set the clutch / fightin drag to minimum so a bite can take off with not too much resistance, and the Zeds DO take off lol not seen the rollovers before, interesting!! Paternostered lives are obviosuly more a problem cos there is that scope for movement so i would go for rear drop offs as for hook size i dont think it makes too much of a difference, as longas they are sharp and are sensible placed on the bait, so 8' or 10's will do...but where do you hook a livebait? for me, hook nearest the swivel (first) in the tail root and the other either in the lip area i am not a fan of standard snap tackle ie first hook in top fin as i find it tangles the line no problem with braid , except when it collects the flotsom when the river is flowing hard...as it (Gt Ouse)must be now lol - hope it will calm down a bit for the weekend!! |
