Talking Zander sharpness canal the meet

Zander sharpness canal the meet

Well the day had finally come and with my sandwiches made I hit the road to the canal to see if we could finally get a zander between us!

After a few words I was finally fishing

Bait
Roach (3 inches) fished whole or just head or tail section

Rigs
Fine wire on a single hook (for roach half’s) or barbless trebles all fished on a running ledger rig

The day was over cast and a wee bit nippy but dry so once my baits had found their place ( one in the middle of the canal the over on the first shelf ) I hunkered down for what I though was going to be a very hard days fishing.

But then about twenty minutes into the day Ian had a fish on ! ! With a quick dash over to his peg we all watched with fingers crossed. Was it a zander?

As it slipped into the net we all cheered as Ian had caught the elusive zander.

With massive smiles we all continued to fish to see if it was our turn next

Sure enough Steve was next with a lovely little zander

Then me with the same sized one

And the Ian again!!

Thing went quiet for a bit till it was Lman turn to get into a zander, with what I think was the biggest zander of the day.

Well what can I say it was a hard day but at least we caught some zander and had a really good laugh especially when Claudia caught the hardest fighting bag of baby poo in the world! Im sure next time we might get into some bigger ones but just catching was good enough for me !

At 6 we decided to call it a day and headed down the Pilot Inn for some much needed food and beer.

Great to see everyone and for us to actually catch some zander .

Sorry no pictures of rigs ext but I forgot my camera

Thumbs up Re: Zander sharpness canal the meet

An excellent days fishing if a little cold & after four attempts we eventually caught our target species. The best three fish weighed 3lb10oz, 3lb 12oz & 4lb 2oz. I was speaking to one chap who was walking along the towpath, who informed me his son's best fish from this strech of water weighed 15lb. So plenty to aim for yet... Well done too to Bananna Steve on catching his first Zed. I'm not sure if it's Lman's first? Oh, & Fullcreel, the food at the Pilot was excellent as ever...
