new to the forum :)

hey im new to this forum, and well....im new to zander fishing. (i tend to fi fish matches and dont specificly go for one species)
iv never caught one before and would like to. im not to bothered about the size.
i live close to the forty foot drain, and have been told its quite good for them.
so im going to go next week. the only problem is... i dont really know much about baits and tackle needed, iv got some piking gear that i use when i go out for them (never really had much luck though).
what bait should i use? any good swims i should try? any setups i should use?
should i ledger or float fish?

any help would be great

Thanks

Re: new to the forum :)

welcome to the forum,

I have not personally fished for zander as northern Ireland does not have the species but after reading about them and seeing programs on tv, i beleive that they prefer freshwater baits, eel as already mentioned is supposed to be a good bait, also if i am corect i beleive that they are a nocturnal feeder and also i dont think that they are keen on lures but they have been caught on them before.

Hope this helps

Re: new to the forum :)

If you fishing during the day, try a quiver tip and strike in to any indication.....Zander can be very very delicate biters and don't like to feel tension on the line.

BTW welcome to the forum

Re: new to the forum :)

Welcome.

I have tried without success for a Zander so I can give you no hints on them.
But Sea fish are a different matter.
