Oxford area zander?

HI Guys,

Am new to this forum, hello to everybody. May you please let me know if there are any venues around Oxford worth visiting targeting the zander? Will soon come to UK for short holidays and would like to make a go. Thanks.

Have had a few between cropreddy and claydon, like merv says keep moving untill you find them, one run usually results in a few other, had them up to 6lb here, float fished small livebaits did the trick

Re: Oxford area zander?

Hi Zed.

Do you intend to catch the Zander for sport or to eat? As many of your countrymen in Spain like to eat them.

Re: Oxford area zander?

Excuse me????

What is that all about??

Yes , I am going to catch, eat em all or sell on car boot!

What a nice feeling to be a proper angler from Poland, one of those thousands NOT eating what they catch man!

Re: Oxford area zander?

There are quite a few reports of zander now being caught in the River Cherwell south of Banbury. Most of these reports appear to be uncomfirmed, but if there is any truth that zander are in this river then eventually they should start showing up where the Cherwell enters the Thames and that is between Folly Bridge in Oxford and Iffley lock. If fact, they may be already in this area.

Question Re: Oxford area zander?

I was recently in Fat Phil's Angling shop in Oxford. He had a photo on his mobile phone of a zander, which was around the 2lb 12oz mark, caught by two young lads purportedly from the River Cherwell at the "Rollers". The "Rollers" is a section of the Cherwell inside the Oxford City boundary where punts are rolled over from one section of the river to another. To be honest, the photo could been taken anywhere, as there was no background detail.

Many British anglers like to eat zander too and in some places like Glos Canal you can't return them without braking fishery owner’s bylaws
