River Stour

Hi all, i fished the river Stour near Haverhill a couple of weeks ago i caught a small zander on a plug, does anyone know how big the zander go on this tiny river?
i have fished the Ramsey Forty Foot a few times and had some decent Zander, does anyone know of any other venues near Haverhill?

Cheers Darrell

Re: River Stour

Hi Darrell,

I have not tried it, yet, but i heard of a zander of about 8lbs coming from near the water works!! I shall give that area a go soon as it would save driving across from Kedinton to Ely etc for a bid of zedding action!
I watch when i can the roach and chub in the Kedington section of the river but i have yet to see any zeds as i think they have drifted into the deepepr slower reaches

Might see you out there some time
Tony

Re: River Stour

hello Tony
i fished Keddington a couple of weeks ago, just before we had all the rain and had some lovely Chub and roach on bread and corn. i have fished near the water works onces and had a decent pike but no zander, with your info i will give it a go again. my little boy caught his first pike last week at Wixoe using a small plug, it was only a quick vist for him to have a go , he was chuffed to bits. let me know when you are out next and i will try to meet up.
a couple of us are going to the Fourty Foot on the 28th, if you are interested let me know

cheers Darrell

Re: River Stour

Hi Tony

The Forty Foot had a breeze, well a gale actually, the fishing was poor, i had no runs on the shop brought dead baits (Roach, Lamperay eel and Smelt) i tried to catch some fresh baits as i am not keen on shop brought baits but only had a huge Perch and a couple of Ruffe, my mate caught a 8lb pike, the poor thing had a set of trebles in its gut, it took ten mins to remove them.

It was the worst day i have had there, speaking to others pike anglers and others doing general angling they all seemed to have a bad day

Been saying to my mate how good a venue it was, i should have kept my mouth shut,

it was good to get some fresh air and peace and quiet

The venue you went to is it a still water / day ticket water?

Re: River Stour

hiya, sounds a grim session, i know that kind of day, had a few myself lol

i fished roswell pits, about a fiver a day if you get tagged and about £25 for my season ticket, think i'll go back to the middle level or the ouse next time...or i might try the "water works" this weekend, depending on weather and women lol

good luck

Re: River Stour

HI Tony

It was grim, details Roswell if you can,

i had planned to start construction of a new filter system for my koi pond this weekend and the way the weather looks i think i will continue lol

if you go to the water works let me know, i will try and pop down, even just to see how you are getting on

which part of the water middle level do you fish?

you should have had enough of the women over the christmas period, or she may have had enough of you....

cheers

Darrell

Re: River Stour

check out ely beet angling socirty or type roswell pits into google or pike and predator, its well known for its zedding with the record fish amny years ago, though last year it did 2 x 16's and a few suporting fish

its a lake but connected to the ouse so they can come and go

if i go to the water works at the weekend it will be a short morning or afternoon spur of the moment mobile session

just started on the middle level this season 8 weeks ago and pb'd a zed fist trip :-), though strugled since thing so i'll let you know how i get on
