| new guy Hello, I am from the USA and do a lot of fishing for a fish that is almost an identical twin of the zander. I was kind of curious about what you folks use for artificial lures? That is what I use mostly here. Jigs, twisters, crankbaits, and the like. Do you gents use the same there? I am very curious so any info you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Jon |

| Re: new guy Doesn't anybody use artificials there? I can't believe these 2 fish are that much different when they look the same. About the only difference I can see between a zander and a walleye is that a walleye has a white spot at the bottom of his tail. Other than that they are identical. You seem to fish for them using small baitfish. Same here, but we also use leeches and artificials. Do you folks have leeches and bloodsuckers there? I know I sound like a dimwit but this really has me curious. I have also heard tell that you have to rent a spot to fish for a certain period of time. This true? I wouldn't know what to do if I couldn't go fishing when and where I wanted. That would be tough. Lets hear what you use. I appreciate any info. Thanks folks. Jon |

Hi littlejon have a look at this web site http://www.lureanglers.co.uk/- you will find loads of info , on how we lure fish over here. most of the lure anglers in the society us ultralight set ups - i use 1/16 to 3/8oz silstar (pinnacle) rod. lures i use are 2" - 3" shads - spinners and jig heads. To fish any water in the uk you need a enviromental licence £24.50 per year - and most places charge on a daily rate anything from £2.50 to £5.00 per day - some waters ie stretches of rivers are club members only , where you pay a yearly fee. strickly speaking lure fishing is a rover aproach ie moving from spot to spot - 10 casts and move on. The british record for a zander is 21 lb 5oz ( not on a lure - on halbut pellets) what is the US record ?? __________________ You smell that? You smell that? Napalm Son. | Re: new guy The record here is 25 lbs. on the nose. Caught by a man named Mabry Harper, caught in Old Hickory Res. in 1960. The biggest I have caught is 7 lbs. I am hoping to get a bigger one this fall. I now have a boat and there is a real good walleye river about 2 hr. drive from my home. Thanks for the link to that other site. I will check it out real soon. Jon |
