First Zander of the year

Well on Tuesday I had a little dabble at fishing for zanders

The plan was bag up on bait fish during the day and then from about 4 - 8 pm ( had to go out ) I would see if I could get some zander at a new location I had scoutted during the summer.

So to cut a boring story short I had a nightmare catching an live bait at all and after hours trying only managed a nice size bleak to show for my efforts. Boy Im I going to have to brush up on my pole fishing.

Any how I thought sod this and rig the bleak on a float rig with the live bait set at 2 foot of the bottom. With a quick cast to the center ( it was still day light ) my live bait was set and bugger me then within 5 mins it got hit my a very agressive little zander. Only about a 1lb if your lucky but fills me with confidence that this mark will deliever a double once I can get hold of fresh bait

Anyhow at dust I had out two frozen roach ( you just cannot bet fresh for zanders IMOA ) on ledger stems one mid channel the other on the first ledge. And yet agian I got some Bleeps but no take until true dusk and the mid channel bait went for it.

I took up the slack and instantly my 3lb rod had a very good bend in it but sadly I got bumpt in 5 seconds

Im sure it was a double zed by the take plus the bump as a pike would have nailed the bait.

So venues sussed just got to think a bit about the zanders as they are shy ones and hopefully next report will have a bigger zander to show for my efforts althought it go to catch what you are targeting .

Well done mate. Bet you had a bigger-than-BaggieRich sized smile when you pulled that little fella out. I predict some good fish this winter if the spot fishes that well!

Nice one.

Well done mate, cracking little zed and sounds like you've found yourself a cracking spot for the winter too.
