LAS Zander Lure Match Details

ZANDER LURE MATCH 2007
SATURDAY 29th SEPTEMBER
FISH 9am – 4pm.

As last year the match will be held at Tewkesbury on Ham Island on the rivers Avon and Severn and the Mill stream, tickets in the car park immediately before the start.
Many people have caught their first zander at one of these matches, the rivers have produced many double figure zander and a few weeks ago a new record zander of 21lb5oz was caught just round the corner, and importantly, returned! Do not fish light, big pike big zander, a special prize for best pike is given and two over 14lb were caught last year.

Again this year the sponsors are Harris-Sportsmail who will be giving rods, reels and other lure tackle as prizes, best zander to two places, and best two total weights of zander. Juniors fish free so long as they are accompanied by an adult, junior prizes are given. Special prize for best pike.

As always this is a roving event, arrangements have been made with the controlling club to fish this water, the entry ticket includes the day ticket. Meet and pay on the day, members £10.00, non-members £14.00 (If you join on the day you get £4 off your membership).

DIRECTIONS. Come of the M5 motorway at Junction 9, take the A438 road into Tewkesbury, in the middle of the town keep left at the war memorial. A minutes drive and you will see the Abbey on your left, a few hundred yards and on the right is the car park, bring some change for the parking. Ideally pay your entrance fee by cheque made out to the Lure Anglers Society, if it is cash, make sure you have the right money.

Well I'm off to join Terry and the other LAS members for the match tomorrow...really looking forward to it!! As a very inexperienced Zander angler I'm hoping to learn a lot from the other guys and maybe catch a few fish as well. I seem to be doing very well with lure caught Pike at the moment but the Zander are still very thin on the ground..so here's hoping for tomorrow. I will post a report with piccies as soon as I get a chance.

not sure on all the weights but 2 people had the grand slam - pike,perch and zander- there were 5 double pike up to 15lb - and a zander at 10lb - and oh me with the 5lb 10oz carp which i had a prize for ....Good to meet you and your mate and thanks for the help with the carp .....cheers

Yea great day and a very friendly crew. It was an eye opener for me to fish the severn where the tide makes the river rise by about 3 feet in half an hour!! Not the best of days for me fish wise, with just a couple of small jacks and a decent pike lost at the net...no sign of zander for me unfortunately. Loved the prize for the biggest Zander....it was a 3 foot long rapala lure!!!

i never saw the river rise that day but i do know when it comes up it can be very fast. more than once ive had to run up the bank with my kit a bit on the fast side.
also im lead to delive there was a bore on the weekend
