stop biting i need to catch a zed

well yesterday i i was getting a zander painting done to hang in my lounge as i not ever like the picture i have over the computer , once this had been sorted out and he knew what i wanted it left me thinking about going zedding (it doesn,t take a lot really ) .
now its been difficult going so i had to make sure i was 100% confident as if i felt any negativity i would probably blank .
so my tackle was all sorted and put in the car along with my bait catching gear and off i went first to angling direct to pick up some hemp and maggots and caster but sadly they were out of casters , but Barrie c had some so it was a case of picking them up on the way (top man Barrie ).
now i never gave it a thought that i would have any trouble in catching bait and although i did manage to catch enough i struggle cause i was catching fish far to big here's a few of the fish i was catching

i had three about this size then i stated to catch a few smaller fish like these cracking Rudd don,t mind catching Rudd like this especially as i need one for the species hunt and the biggest one was 1lb 2oz which i think is also a forum record (woohoo)

here,s the biggest brace of Rudd i have i think they make stunning pictures Rudd shame i did not due them justice here but still they look good don,t ya think ?

i finally had to pull myself away as you can imagine i was really enjoying catching these but it was meant to be a zander session and i had all ready been pleasure fishing to long and had to get set up before dark
soon i was set up and the drain really did look good and i was very very confident.
with the flow be a steady draw i decided to fish off my very sensitively set baitrunners as the flow would just pull my bobbins up and i would be for ever pulling them down .
so with all the rods being fished close i was going to have to be ultra careful of bankside noise and light as to not spook any fish that might move through .i had just sat back when the rod directly in front of me started to pull line of the baitrunner i struck with out hesitation and soon was rewarded with a zed which put up a spirited fight in the flow

soon it was released and the rod was dropped about 10 yards out and set back in the rest .
i took this opportunity to move my far left rod and cast it a bit further out and down and lighten the lead to allow the flow to gently move it in inch by inch this was watched carefully at this point .
it had been out about ten minutes before the alarm spurted into life with a short pull i was immediately over to it and as i reached it another sharp pull of line came off and again i struck and connected with a better feeling fish again its hard to judge in the flow how big it is but i was thinking its a good zed until a pike around 8lb to 9lb popped up i soon had it gathered up and on the unhooking mat and it had taken the hooks well in but was not a problem in unhooking it but i decided not to take a picture and get it back in straight away .
another decent bait was selected and the rod was sent back out to bounce round slowly into the margins .
every 15minutes i was recasting the rods and was working very hard to induce further runs but not to much was happening and then with out a warning the far left rod was starting to have line taken of the runner i struck hard to set the hooks and i knew it was another zed by the way i could feel it shaking its head soon i had it banked unhooked and pictured (7lb 8oz )

as you can see from my smile i was very happy indeed to be back catching my favourite fish even if they are not monsters
i had one other run which i manage to miss in fine style but i was not overly upset with that at all i fished on till around 11pm when i decided to call it a night a pack up and head off home

Yahoo the zed master is back....well done Kev, I knew it wouldn't take long before you catch again.

Mind you, the bream and rudd look a treat too...never had a rudd that big myself cracking report/pics.......looking forward to fish with you soon at the Linear lake....I'm sure I can learn alot from you

Well done Kev you,ve had some cracking Rudd there its quite often the case when your after baits you catch fish that are too big.
