Bunch of half wits

Some of the guys at our local boat club took the trouble to construct a boom across the slipway to stop the driftwood from the Taff clogging up the launch site. It consisted of some plastic floats, some webbing, ropes and chain to sink the ropes to avoid catching your prop in the rope. A brilliant idea even if it was a bit of a palava. Anyway, when I got there to launch this morning, the boom was closed and the slipway full of driftwood. Obviously someone has left it open for a considerable time. Well it took me half an hour to clear a path to launch into and then when I went to open the boom, all the ropes and most of the webbing had gone so there was no way of opening it without rigging something up.(I`m presuming some tw*t has half inched the gear). Anyway, I carried a couple of spare lines in the boat for emergencies and rigged something up. Took me about 3/4 of an hour because I had to throw ropes across from one side to the other, hook em out with my boat hook, connect the chains to sink the ropes.....blah blah. All this is fishing time mind you and i`m really pi**ed off by now. Anyway, I left the boom open with the intention of shutting it on my return from fishing as there was no floating rubbish about. When I came back, the boom was shut but one of my ropes had gone. Some a**hole has stolen one of my ropes. Presumably the same tw*t who had the last lot.
The point is though, I shut the boom after me and took my other rope with me.....the `not so good one` that was left. The other that was taken was an expensive floating line. I had every intention of leaving them both there but why the hell should I if they are going to get nicked. I had a look to see if any empty trailers were in the yard but couldnt see any. If anyone was out and comes back to find that you have to rig something up to open the boom, then I sincerely apologise.

Re: Bunch of half wits

Sounds like a bit of stress involved in being a member of a club.....

Re: Bunch of half wits

Takes me back to the conversations I used to have while serving on Glamorgan Anglers committee years ago. I used to fish St Y Nyll a heck of a lot and also do a lot of weed removal, litter picking and generally keep the place tidy without sterilising it's charm. There was another guy there (I think called Paul, but I'm sorry I can't remember).

I'm there one day and someone who I might have seen once starts whining about the weed. "Then rake it" is my answer. To which his was "Why should I, that's what the committee are paid for, not that you ever see any of the lazy sods down here. I only ever see you and Paul, they (I assume the committee) don't bother.". I nearly laughed my bum off. Just for the record, the committee were not paid and were just ordinary anglers looking to help the club run.

My point is that the majority of people in a club have little idea of what other members do to make their lives bearable. The there's a significant minority that take without giving and just assume that everything just runs by magic and purely for their sole benefit. There's also a tiny minority within any endevor who are just totally thoughtless and without even an ounce of wit do all they can to screw things up. If you don't believe me , ask yourself which members of this forum would regard the dumping of hook packs, ammo bait packets and yards of line on a beach as acceptable. My guess is a resounding ZERO.Then ask yourself, so how does it get there? From people who don't care enough to register on a forum and share their thoughts with others. ah! cider, where did that come from? Who cares I know where it's going , tight lines.

small world barbel blanker

used to fish st-y-nyll loads....absolutley loved the place.
we used to dfish the bottom pond which wasn't glamorgans but the tench that we would have fishing from 4am till 9.30am were out of this world.....untill the new owner/renter put a load of commons and mirrors in there which bully the tench out...can still be caught but not as much.mind you they were probably put in for the lazy people who couldn't be arsed getting up....

Re: Bunch of half wits

John,

I nearly lived at the place from about 16 till I moved away on work (to Bath, now that was torture what with the River Avon 300 yeards from my front door, oh the pain). Upper pond mind, never did much on the bottom one. We had a load of floating weed that was there for years and ruined the fishing.

I'm a little sad to hear the bottom pond has been stocked with carp. Bit of a mistake I think as good tench waters are rare these days. Do remember that the bottom pond always seemed a little more like a river near the top end. I think it was the fact that you could sit on the bank rather than have to be on a platform of some sort.

It certainly is a small world. So remember , if you can't make friends avoid making enemies.

If you re-rig it, before sinking the ropes, thread some rusty 1/0 aberdeens through the rope at about 6" intervals, that should make 'em think
