Not Catching Fish... What to do?

Over the past couple of months I've been blanking out a lot when fishing from the shore. I've tried Newton Point, Porthcawl pier, Cold Knap, Sully Island, Breakwater Pier (Barry) etc, and all I've managed to land have been dogfish.

After spending an unproductive 10 hours on Saturday (AM high tide at Newton and PM high tide at Cold Knap) without so much as a single bite I've come to the conclusion that I'm doing something wrong.

But what?

If there is anyone who wants to come out sometime this week (for a few hours) or on the weekend (as much as you can take) for a spot of shore fishing (you get to choose the mark!), I'd appreciate any advice you can give me.

Ta.

Re: Not Catching Fish... What to do?

Sorry to here your run of bad luck mate

I do not fish the shore there but will get out later in the year and maybe we could meet up some day

Are your baits fresh ? and in the channel you need big baits i.e 3 to 10 lug at a time depending on what you are going for

One thing to remember is the channel is in change over mode at the moment when the summer spieces are moving out and the winter ones are thinking of moving in

These are just thought as Im sure some one who fishing it reg... with chip in

Re: Not Catching Fish... What to do?

Hey Dace, I don't really fish shore, (only done it twice and blanked lol) but I think Richard might be right, change over from summer to winter fish...and face it, we all go through bad patches, no matter if sea or course fishing, don't give up, your day will come and it all be worth your while.
I don't think you doing anything wrong, guess it's like a lucky dip at the lottery....you never win but carry on playing...and one day maybe you hit the jackpot.

Good luck and tight lines
Claudia

Re: Not Catching Fish... What to do?

Well generally I'm taking a variety of baits with me and giving them all a bash. As far as freshness goes, they are either nice juicy lug, or blast frozen bits and bobs.

Squid, mackerel, sandeel and worm are my usual weapons (duds). Generally, my bait presentation is excellent (go out on the boats a lot) but nothing is happening.

Because its been so bad recently, I even used a swimfeeder with some custom made groundbait... still nothing playing.

I'm sure that the part of the battle I'm losing is time and location... its just local knowledge required which I don't have so I'm playing hit and miss when I travel.

Anyone fancy showing me how its supposed to be done?

Your not doing anything wrong mate. Its the time of year. Give it another month or so and the cod and whiting will be here again. I`d like to be able to say i`ll go with you one day but unfortunately most of my fishing is on a whim you know, not very well planned and when I get a day off. Dont give up though, your luck will change.
